I agree with the poster below who says The River 105.9 is similar to a JACK station. I also want to say I think Hartford doesn't have enough FM signals to have a station like this. "Hartford" (meaning the market) only has 9 FM Stations - 92.5, 93.7, 95.7, 96.5, 100.5, 102.9, 104.1, 105.9, and 106.9). 9 stations IMHO isn't enough to try a flavor of the week format. The situation with Infinity's Dancin' Oldies format on 93.7 was different because at least that station had personality.
I think we'll see an FM Spanish station before we get Jack. I just don't know who would go Spanish on FM, but I can tell you it should not be 106.9 FM because their signal isn't that terrific in New Haven because 1). There is a translator for WJMJ on 107.1 in New Haven, and 2). WCCC's tower is on Avon Mountain. Why does a Spanish station in Hartford need to do well in New Haven? Because New Haven hasn't had their own legal Spanish Station since the original WXCT on 1220 AM (Hamden) was sold to Qunnipiac 10 years ago. For a while the guy who is programming the new WXCT (990 AM Southington/Hartford) Hipolito Cuevas was running an unlicensed spanish station at 104.5 FM in New Haven. 104.5 FM got busted because 1). WYBC-FM 94.3 claimed 104.5 was interfering with their station. (I'm not an engineer, so I don't know how that is possible) and 2). Luz Lebron who was owner of LaBrava 1470 a Spanish Station in Meriden filed a complaint with the FCC about 104.5 FM.
And to CabRadio before you say I'm making false accusations against Mr. Cuevas I want to tell you that in one of the articles that were in The New Britain Herald in September 2000 about all the stuff that was going down at WNTY it states that Hipolito who was WNTY's GM didn't get along with Luz Lebron who was programming WNTY because she reported his illegal radio station to the FCC while she owned a station in Meriden.<P ID="signature">______________
