No Joe Castig this evening

If this is a look at the future of Red Sox broadcasting, the generic sound, isn't too impressive. I tuned in late and as sume Joe has the game off. Trupiano is missed.

Hi

It's a long broadcasting season , he is taking a few extra days off !!

let him enjoy his time off from the broadcast booth !!

Now where is that stapler ?

How about the television at 9 PM. Ortiz up at the bat and they cut to a commercial by mistake. THEY LET THE COMMERCIAL RUN, then went back to the game. Ortiz hit a double, his third hit of the night.

That's excitement somewhat destroyed by an allegedly inept production staff - depending on who is at fault.

breaking the momentum of the broadcast with unnecessary commercials.

That has been happening too often and on WRKO as well. Fox has to be the worst offender but NESN isn't far behind nor is RKO.
Tonight I was listening to the game on the radio and whoever the new guy is....can't remember his name - let's call him Mr. Cellophane...
had to do some catch up since they came back so late in the inning.

Perhaps, we should note those sponsors who cut into the game and either boycott them or at least track them down by their webpage and let them know that they are not building good will with Red Sox fans by interrupting the game. Letting RKO know or the Red Sox organization would be a waste of time

Glenn Geffner = Goofner = Lucchino's pal...qualified?
38cliches.com has spotlighted Goofner--and I have noted his habit of saying things like
"so, the run scores and the Red Sox are back to within 4 to 2" (huh? should be "the run
scores, and the Red Sox are back to within 2 runs--it's 4 to 2")
Too talkative, too many stats, etc. though sometimes he's not so bad.
Dave O'Brien is pretty good and I do tend to defend Joe C., who is only irritating when he
calls fly balls as if they were HRs. But other announcers have done the same.

Trup just about cornered the market in that, treating every fly ball as an opportunity to practice his 'home run call' for his audition tape (A swing and a drive....waaaay back...Lowell gathers it in just outside the coaches box....)

I was listening to a portion of the game as well and I heard Goofner say the following:

"A grounder foul off of the third base bag".

Well, if the ball were indeed "off of the third base bag" it would a FAIR ball.

He is horrible.

Geffner makes Bob Rodgers look like Ned Martin. Awful. I've worked with AA announcers that could work circles around this guy.

You're kidding right? You do know that the sponser don't sit in the studio and play their own comercials.... right? You do realize that the problem more then likely stemmed from a board op who was NOT paying attention, thought he heard the cue, hit the commercial and realized too late that he wasn't supposed to be playing the commercial.

I'll bet any advertiser would LOVE to sit in a broadcast booth and play their own commercials?

What would begin as a 30-second spot between the first and second innings...would evolve into a 20-minute infomercial during the 7th inning stretch!

On Sunday, 7/8, Joe announced he would be taking "time off" after the All-star Break and thet Geffner and O'Brien woould be calling the Toronto series. As one of you posters points out, at www.38cliches.com we have been following the Geffner experiment since pre-season. The Friday night game was a nadir.
