Has Rapid City ever had a local talk show? In the almost 6 years I've lived here there hasn't been one. If market #292 Grand Forks ND can have Mike McNamara, Small Market Personality of the Year at the 2007 National Association of Broadcasters' Marconi Radio Awards, why can't #279 Rapid City have at least one local talk show? It almost seems like an agreement among the owners not to have one.
Three of the four AM's in Rapid City are 24/7 satellite. 1380 KOTA is live and local with news from 6 to 10am and 4 to 5:30pm. The rest of their schedule is syndication. I have my favorite syndicated hosts but you'd think Rapd City could have just 1 local show. Don Grant at KOTA can't do it all and hoping for Bill Duhamel to cough up a few bucks for a local talk show is like believing in the Easter Bunny.
I almost laugh at "K-talk 1340" when they run their sweeper that says "where Rapid City comes to talk". Yeah, talk to the satellite.
Rapid City radio is about as local as a copy of USA Today.
