No Longer a "Good Thing": Hallmark axes "Martha"

Terrific. Now maybe they'll bring back 7th Heaven and add a daytime airing of Golden Girls. When Hallmark Channel returned to regular programming on January 2nd after nearly 2 months of XMAS Movies, they removed the 2 hour long daytime block of Golden Girls in favor of Bob Newhart. When with Hallmark Channel learn? Every time they eliminate the daytime airings of Golden Girls they end up with thousands of complaints and end of bringing them back a few weeks later.

Not to mention the way they handled I Love Lucy since picking it up from TV Land. I wanna see more of it. I havent watch 7th Heaven since it was on The WB so it would be nice to catch up.

If Hallmark is starting to carry the 70's Bob Newhart Show, is it possible they could be getting other MTM series like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Newhart (80's), or WKRP? I'd definitely rather see them than Martha Stewart. Also, will they continue to carry MASH at least occasionally?

I was very surprised when Hallmark acquired "The Bob Newhart Show," but I guess it fits with their demos. Some MTM shows are on FamilyNet, but that cable channel is in limited households.

As for Hallmark, I think Martha Stewart was not a good programming choice. I think the network had some financial and rating problems a few years ago. If I was Hallmark, I would get a little younger and add "The Cosby Show," "Full House," "Coach," "Everybody Loves Raymond," and a few other shows. I would keep "The Golden Girls," "I Love Lucy," "Frasier" and bring back "M*A*S*H." Then, I would push for more family-friendly, original reality and drama programming, along with their original movies their produce annual. I know you may think this is other TV Land clone, but I think they need to do something different. Other cable channel, especially INSP has expanded from their religious and acquired shows like "Happy Days" and "Brady Bunch."

Getting Martha Stewart off was pretty much a no brainer. When they brought her in I was wondering if that was before or after brain scans.

They did have "Who's the Boss?" but then they dropped it. "Everybody Loves Raymond" is on a number of channels including TBS, TV Land and local syndication, so it maybe too new for Hallmark, and anyways too much duplication. "The Cosby Show" is on Centric TV. I'm surprised "The Cosby Show" isn't on a more mainstream cable network though, but all episodes are also on Netflix On Demand.

I'm not sure where "Coach" is but I think it's backup filler for one of the cable nets.

Coach is on Reelz. They also have Spin City, Wings, Cheers, and 3rd Rock. I really like that selection and have been watching them regularly lately. They seem to be making an effort to boost up their movie lineup too.

Martha's been given a bad rap over the past years. Hugely successful, hard-driven, talented businesswoman=HATE.

She's another one who made a name for herself on other people's ideas, recipes, lives. I don't think she knows what it is to create her own, nurture it, baby it, raise it by herself. She showed up one day, never went away, and she is being eased out, because her time is past.

Right. She's just one of those show titles you see listed while looking for something interesting on tele.

Coby Show was on TBS, WGN, Nick at Nite and TV Land. After a while those episodes get tired.

I called it. Golden Girls back on 8AM-10AM. Bob Newhart now on 2AM-4AM.

Seriously? They gave it ONE WEEK before banishing it to overnights?

I think Hallmark Channel owns the rights to Golden Girls during the day while WE owns the evening rights. Could be the other way around. That show is more popular than Bob Newhart.

Did anyone else notice this line? "Hallmark has canceled The Martha Stewart Show after it finishes its season (thru the end of summer), but the Hallmark Martha block will continue with other programming." So apparently we aren't getting much more classic TV back on Hallmark.
