No longer homeless, despite slow economy!

I think Hip Hop has a home in the Valley, once again!

This weekend, I did quite a bit of Power 98.3 listening and have heard the slogan "where Hip Hop lives" 'creeping' its way back into play! I'm not sure if this is a wise decision or not, but I guess they might as well use it if they're going to lean more hip hop and take advantage of the steady stream of new hip hop hits that seem to have recently been relentlessly coming out! After all, they might as well continue targeting that audience and filling that void that no one else is really paying much mind too anymore in Phoenix the same way some rhythmics are also doing in other states; Lean urban while still featuring urban influenced pop hits.

They have been using that slogan. They have been shifting for a few months now to a more urban rotation, but all that really amounts to is they play more recurrents and golds (for lack of a better term since most of it is garbage). The majority of currents are mainly uptempo, so thats all they really can do if they want to pigeon hole themselves again to a dying trend.

I do notice they still try to lean away from the uptempo stuff during mix shows. Sometimes they have "extended" uptempo sets, but that's mainly only during the times when the dj's who favor that particular style are on. I was shocked to hear the new Marc Anthony ft Pitbull FIRST on Power, though. I figured that I'd hear it on KZZP first. I only listened to Power 98.3 (off & on) mainly on Sunday & Monday (and Friday when they did the dirty south style 2hr Happy Hour at 5 with a lot of the low tempo southern / southeastern music).

Fri & Sat nights seem to lean very heavily on slower tempo hip hop hits.
