No more Archway

I know we can see radio ratings on this site, but I haven't yet gotten into the habit of doing that. I still go to rronline.com, which lists WLGT's owner as Archway. All the other Archway stations have new owners. However, rronline.com is known for being wrong about formats, so it's no surprise that I found other sources that said WLGT is no longer an Archway station.

Furthermore, I read somewhere Archway no longer exists.

So no more coming to this board and getting a craving for oatmeal cookies.

That's not the worst news. I was reading a newspaper column (in an actual newspaper) about prescription drugs and natural remedies. The writer was saying that relief for his/her problem could no longer come from Archway cookies. They're no longer made. Can this be? I just ran out but haven't bought any new ones since I looked and they weren't on sale. But they were still being sold ...

It's really nice to see the local ''ownership'' of radio stations return like it needs to be, like ''InnerBanks Media'' and do local radio right.

I think corporate ownership will be fading soon, if you look at their stock prices,
a big selloff is coming, and local ownership will come back!

So am I to understand from these posts that Archway was a big company, and InnerBanks is local?

Archway was not really big, more like medium sized... and they were not local. Inner Banks is locally owned by Don Curtis, Henry Hinton, and Hank Hinton.

Archway Cookies has been bought out by Charlotte-based Lance Inc. According to an article I read in the Charlotte Observer they will return to store shelves by the spring (they will continue to be manufactured at the same plant in Ohio).

I'm glad to hear it. I only noticed they were taking over the plant, but it was only after I saw People's Pharmacy that I knew they were out of business.

So did people not like Archway because they weren't local? I constantly saw complaints about their stations.

They had WRHD and WRHT, right?

My only connection with those two stations was the fact that they were among the many stations I could pick up in Myrtle Beach in the car when I was there. Obviously for WRHD it was before 1994, since its frequency is now occupied in Myrtle Beach. I finally figured out which station it was because "Rock 90" must have been on 900, which was co-owned with 103.7 at the time. the radio wasn't digital, so I couldn't identify frequencies. For some reason I couldn't find WLAT-FM, which I always saw on the way there.

WRHT has moved since then, I believe.

I decided Archway needed a Wikipeda article.

I didn't find much, but the histories of their Eastern N.C. stations on Wikipedia sure do look better now after I got through with them.

All the call letters moves were so confusing. I didn't know WNBR was 94.1 so I had the wrong station in some articles before I finally figured out what was going on.

Plus 97.7 now has a more detailed call letter history. I thought its pre-WKIX history had been included. I knew about WQDW and put that there, but that's all I knew.

Between the 70s music as "97.7 and 94.1 The Bear" and "Carolina Country" there was the "Sunny Beach FMs." They were on 94.1 Oriental, 97.7 Kinston, and 104.7 Rose Hill. It didn't last long... 2 years at most, if even that.
