No More Austin Radio Stations

If this board is any indication, there are no longer any radio stations broadcasting in Austin.

The last Austin radio post on this board, until now, was two months ago. And even that one drew only a few comments.

As much as I enjoy reading the San Antonio posts, whatever happened to Austin? Is the Austin market so stable, so predictable, so boring that no one cares about it anymore? More than 30 stations in the market and.....nothing.

That's because nobody in Austin decides to either read this board, or if they are reading they're not commenting.

Wish this was like the days back in 2011 when I first found the forum. Lots more activity then.

People simply don't use this board as much as they used to. The only reason San Antonio's afloat is because of one or two members. And who knows how long they will stick around?
Honestly I wish this had more activity, but what can I do about it?

Unfortunately Radio Discussions has not fully recovered from its abrupt shutdown and hiatus in late 2013. Activity on many boards has picked up, but not at previous levels. Many former regular posters never came back.

One thing that would help is more posters initiating topics, rather than waiting for others to do so.

Thanks for your responses, Unknowable and Mediafrog -- I think you've pinpointed what the Austin board problem is. Abruptly closing radiodiscussions.com's board in 2013 was a huge mistake by the previous owners -- glad it's back now, just hope we can bring back some of the "regulars" and reach out to new posters.

Not to mention that many of us have very busy lives, and are working harder than ever. Myself, for instance dropped running back in forth between Austin and San Antonio, work two jobs on opposite sides of town (North Central, and Southwest) and although just got my first smart phone, don't run data too often on it. I have been here on these boards since 2009, and current San Antonio radio doesn't really tickle my fancy since they dropped Mark Levin on KTSA, and KXTJ-LP is unlistenable. So I have kind of been watching TV when I have the 2 percent of my time to do so. I got a couple of beefs with some of Me-TV's commercials I plan to post under Television but I have taken politics and investigative reporting on VIA transit a priority right now. I guess what I am trying to say is there is only so much time in the day and some hobbies get shelved for a spell.

Just curious when was the last format flip in Austin?

I don't know if this was the last format flip in Austin but this is the last one that I know about from my memory:

On 06/05/2014, KWNX 1260 KHz which had been simulcasting sister station KTXX 104.9 MHz “The Horn” (sports) flipped to KLGO “The Word” Gospel music.

I don't follow many of the stations in Austin so there could be others that flipped after this date.

Thanks flyingdj.

IMO, there's just more happening on SA radio compared to Austin.
