No More Delilah & Backtrax USA on Lite102.9?

Starting this past Saturday (6/2) I didn't hear Kid Kellys' "Backtrax USA" on Lite102.9.

Sometimes, it was hosted by Paul "Cubby" Bryant from Z100/New York.

It was a mainstay of their weekend programming for quite a while.

Tonight, Mon., 6/4, I didn't hear Delilah from 7pm-12am.

Just regular programming.

In my opinion, even though I'll miss both programs, the station does sound more upbeat with this type of programming than Delilah.

What do you think about their programming this to counter the better ratings of competitor K104.7?

Delilah's program is dying. It's been steadily losing affiliates for the past few years, especially in PPM markets. I can't believe she lasted that long on Lite.

I don't know if these are enough changes to make any difference. They're pretty much the lowest rated signal (except for 92.7)...I don't think the market can support as many AC stations as there are.

Maybe they have dropped these programs in preparation for a change of format. But we shall see, although ratings indicate a change may be necessary.

Good call. Why renew a show if planning to drop it soon? Who knows, but 102.9 could do much better.

Somethings gonna give. I'm predicting flip by end of year. CC is only prolonging the inevitable!

It amazes me how K 104.7 is faring better in the ratings than Lite 102.9. Even with Lite's newer, updated sound, it sounds more focused and cohesive than WKQC. I hear K 104.7 and feel like someone is letting Selector schedule the music and then never reviewing or editing the logs. Even with all of the rules, sound codes, etc., Selector ain't perfect!

K sounded great when it first launched and was in a unique position in the market. It provided the older chunk of the demo with a lot of the classic 60s, 70s and 80s songs that you would now hear on a classic hits station while also playing some of the newer music while not getting too carried away with currents. It had a very nice texture and feel to it, and the jocks, imaging and music flowed extremely well. In my opinion, now, the imaging sounds mediocre, and the jingle package they have does not match the format. The new morning show, to their credit, does sound much better.

Ah, well - obviously, WKQC is providing what the AC audience in Charlotte wants to hear, even though it may not come off as polished to the trained radio ear. Can't argue with success!

Should WLYT be forced to flip, I agree that a classic hits station would be a welcome addition to the market. I'm in Charlotte often for business, and Magic 96.1 is sorely missed - even 8 years later!

^ I liked K-104.7's early sound also. For a long time, they were the older-leaning AC compared to Lite. I don't know what's making them do so well now, but their rise is remarkable. Lite's decline sort of came from nowhere but has been awful.

I don't know any other option for 102.9 than classic hits should they flip. Every other format is tied up and well covered. I think it would do well. Heck, the Triangle sustains 2 classic hits stations!

FWIW, Delilah is now gone from the website.

BacktraxUSA (80's hits w/Kid Kelly) is now programmed on Sunday evenings from 10-12.

A competitor for 99.7/The Fox' "House of Hair" w/Dee Snider 80's hair bands!

I remember Delilah was real big back in the late '90s. Today though, the "soft rock" AC format is dying, and her show doesn't really fit with what AC is today.

Lite102.9's free fall continued in to May, with them grabbing a 3.4 share (down from 3.6) - every book since Christmas has been down. I think it's time to blow it up.

I wanted to add, I listened to Lite and noticed that nothing has changed about them really since their ratings started to collapse. Seems like CC would at least make adjustments/changes (dropping Delilah was the only real one) to try to prop the ratings up. I think the lack of a local morning show really hurts them vs. K-104.7, who finally has a decent one. IMO, their playlist has more variety and is better than K's.

Wonder if they have anything up their sleeve (that could explain the lack of changes despite the falling ratings?), or if the station's performance is still acceptable. 13th 6+ in a market like C-G-RH (especially when you were sometimes top 5 not that long ago) just doesn't seem acceptable.
