NO more KOOL

Andy Holt, Programming Genius

> > > what's up with that?
>

The brilliant new KOOL format created by the cayudel of New Orleans radio, Andy Holt, lasted 13 days...13 days longer than his limp alter ego Andy James in midday should have lasted. Coming into New Orleans as an alleged program director and then babysitting an established format is one thing. Having to use your brains is another. But I'm sure he has the talent to program a simulcasted station. What a guy!

No mas...no mas!
Kool's website still online stating "the greatest hits of all time". Too funny. Spend all that money to postion themselves as "back and better than ever" on air and online. It's seems to be a birthday present to David Field for himself and on a full moon too boot. Just 13 days on and they're pulling the plug? Can't wait to hear this spin. Who were they afraid of, WRNO or WTIX? Our research sez.......

Re: Andy Holt, Programming Genius

I think it's great.
Now I can listen to WWL in the office.

Probably got wind (phew)! that CC was gonna do news/talk with 'RNO and wanted to beat them to it. Go TIX-FM! The Oldie King rules once again!

The automation is also still running music and liners and streaming like nothing happened. Just crossfades where the DJ would normally be talking.
______________

On the WWL website, they wrote that people were clamoring for the return of WWL on FM.

Me, I believe that they didn't want to do the oldies format anyway, and they needed an excuse to get rid of it.

Of course, I don't see them keeping 870 on the FM in the long-term.
______________

According to Radio and Records, it said it's supposed to be long term with Kool 105.3 being moved permanently to cyberspace for those wanting the oldies....

Since it's being promoted at WWL on FM, I'm wondering if Entercon can get the calls or like calls for the 105.3 frequency if permanent.

Since I'm bored, I checked on a few possibilities...WWWL is available but would be a mouthfull to say unless you are Buddy D. I miss Buddy D...I could only imagine him on the air in K's aftermath. WWLF is also available--for WWLF(M)

How long will that last? Playing the same 399 songs over and over? Do they really think people will go out of their way to stream on their computers? If Michael Costello tweeks TIX-FM, he could see big gains. It wouldn't surprise me to see Mr. Holt sent packaging and Entercom put Steve Suter in charge of Magic, saving a bunch of money. Look over your shoulder Andy James. Now the fun begins..."As the Stomach Turns"!

I think they can change the FM to WWL-FM. In Detroit the three letter calls were put on a TV station. The TV was bought and made a sister station to an AM that was already owned.

There's no reason that 105.3 couldn't become WWL-FM. I would imagine that they have probably already filed for the change.

I wouldn't be suprised to see HD radio come into the market (since I know for sure Entercom is slowly adding new markets to the HD roster).

They could put KOOL on 105.3 HD2. The internet thing just might be a reason to hold on the format till this can be done.

As of Yesterday (April 13th) 105.3 is now officially WWL-FM

http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/.../call_hist.pl?Facility_id=52435&Callsign=WTKL

My only question was since they don't issue 3 letter callsigns anymore if it would happen..but appearently yes it can.

You have a point there. Entercom did that with WQSX/Boston last year when they placed "Star 93.7" on the internet to make room for Variety Hits WMKK(93.7 Mike FM), then bought it back as a HD2 this year.

Yeah, Everyone's Just Waiting...

...to hear KOOL's *very own* same 200 burnt out songs on the internet and just counting the days till the same burnt out music hits the airwaves again, HD or no HD. Crap is crap no matter how you package it. I bet their internet counter would just show staggering results.

Don't know if anyone remembers, but Steve Suter was PD of 95.7 when it was MIX 95.7 "The Right Mix Of Hits And Oldies!")

As far as I understand, he is the assistant PD of Magic right now. Been that way for quite a few years.
