NO More KROCK on WRKN?

It's now simulcasting 98.1. If there "stunting" what a boring way to do it.

(and their stereo carrier is off)

Ya I don't see what they gain simulcasting signal wise. Interesting. If i were them i would keep
wrkn sports and put music back on wtke.

It seems as if they may be throwing in the towel with the sale? Just a thought...did this thing finally go through?

Don't know, I've been doing other things and haven't been keeping up w/ Ft W. Beach radio. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents.
I may be doing other things in 2010 but will still be on here. Hopefully doing some much needed travel. I want out of here.. like now!

Rob - NO - mapquest says you HAVE to stay. We all wanna have play by play when they come to take "hell" away.

haaaaaaaaa!!

anyway, i'm guessing what the format is.. "the great 98" again??

Hmm... there are rules against an FM simulcasting another FM station if the signal contours overlap above a certain percentage (see WSNI/WJJZ Philadelphia switch of 2006.) 100.3 and 98.1 broadcast off the same tower, so I would assume that logically, 98.1 envelops 100.3's signal completely, therefore, this simulcasting goes against regulations.

I've noticed the strange things happening on KROCK too. Yesterday it appeared to be a direct simulcast of 98.1. Today 98.1 is off the air and 100.3 is IDing as "The Ticket" but they are still playing the "WRKN, KROCK...Classic Rock Station" top of the hour IDs. I haven't been in range so I have no idea what's on 1400 AM. Also, 100.3 "The Ticket" is playing commercials for businesses well outside of the listening area of this Class A station.
I guess they could be having trouble with 98.1 but it sure would be cool if 98.1 signed back on with Christmas Music.

Ron Hale is a master programmer!

And there are plenty of markets where one format is on two signals. Granted, its usually on smaller signals.

I just did a little research and it looks like the whole Star/Cumulus deal has finally gone down.

The Ticket's website now has a new design and logo, it's now WTKE on 100.3, and there's a blog post yesterday that mentions signing off of 98.1 and a new Country station coming to 98.1. I also went to FCC.GOV and Star is listed as the owner of the license of WYZB 105.5 (Cumulus is not yet listed as owner of 98.1)

So it appears that The Ticket is now a Fort Walton market ONLY station on 100.3 (leaving a huge format hole for one of the Pensacola AMs to pick up)

Country "The Wolf" must be on it's way to 98.1. There will probably be a 30 day simulcast if the Market's #1 station is changing frequencies, right?

Look for "KRock" to show up on 105.5 by the end of the year?

What did Quantam get out of this deal?

This sure is turning out to be a busy month for Cumulus.

The station ID on 100.3 today is "WRKN, Niceville - Destin, soon to be WTKE, 100.3 The Ticket."
I also heard a sound bite in the ID that sounded like it was a clip from that DJ that quit on air at 93 BLX last year (Ivetta the Mood Setta?). That can't be, why would they be taking shots at Cumulus?

98.1 is back on the air today with loud and clear silence.

they are now airing christmas music with some problems on 98.1

All I'm getting is static on 98.1. I really hope it's not another country station. :-\ I also hope that they make 100.3 full sports and get rid of the political talk.

Yeah, Rob's right. They are playing some Christmas music but it's mostly just silence. The silence is clear in the Navarre area but it has a lot of static in Pensacola. Hopefully this means the station is on lower power. I haven't listened long enough to hear any type of station ID.

And I don't think there are any plans for ANOTHER Country station... they're just moving Country 105.5 to 98.1. I believe Hale agreed to a non-compete and will not be putting Country or AC on 105.5 in the sales agreement with Cumulus.

The launch of the new 98.1 really deserves it's own thread separate from the death of KRock.

KROCK was quite good, I enjoyed it. They may be at lower power for testing. 100KW should be back up soon. I've noticed more computer noise on it. I'm going to invest in a yagi and a sony HD receiver someday, except that may be put on hold thou.. found a good yagi for $15.00. but I want a good 15 element one so I can hear WFLF and 101.1 out of panama.

Kinda sad how this area has been through more changes.

Was listening to 104.5 out of H'Burgh, MS (where my friend lives) and that sounds like a solid, local station. (via tropo and WJAZ 104.7 was crumbling it.. or is it AAZ.) Despite it was automation, sounded like a local tradition up there.

Gonna listen for calls at TOH this christmas music is depressing to say the least. Sigh

Don't know if there on a CP or not for reduced power, I'd bet they still ID as WTKE until the Commission approves a new call.

haaa!

OK FOR YOU RADIO GEEKS no TOH LEGAL ids were played. Is this legal for stations in shift mode?
Heard "98.1 the christmas station" no calls were given

Rob

i just heard the call letter WTKE 98.1 the christmas station..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WTKE

Interesting that it states Quantum finally took over. I dug around and found this part to be true but then follows with WYZB will land at the station...of course that makes ZERO sense as WYZB is a cumulus station..

Wow i never thought quantum would end up with it since it took so long what a weird story anyone with more info?

That's strange. A couple days ago FCC.Gov listed Star as license holder of 98.1 and 105.5. Today Cumulus is listed as owner of 105.5 and Qantam is listed as owner of 98.1.
