No More Miller?

Browsing through the Carolina 92.1 website I notice that Tim Miller and his show have been removed.

Interesting...

The new owners have already been managing the station under an LMA. The assumption some of us had made was that Miller was the sole remaining employee of Double O and that he would be terminated post-LMA, since the new owner will be hands-on. Under an LMA, the licensee is required to have at least one employee on site to be their representative during an LMA.

Apparently they picked another employee to stay through the transition. It appears Miller has moved on. Or been moved on.

Does anyone have any idea what formats 92.1 and 94.3 are going to flip to? Are they going to keep Good morning Columbia? They just started, so I am curious if they give it a try or let them go and pretend it never happened.

When I saw this title, first thing that came to my mind was "Miller Communications." They really don't have much of a presence anymore either. LoL Anyway, I'm glad to see the tide is already beginning to shift at 92.1 and 94.3. Columbia needs some good competiton with the big wigs.

A sad day indeed.....The "Creative Mastermind" has left the building.....

.....Sorry couldn't keep a straight face on that one.

I bet this thread made Harold Millers mouth drop till he opened it. I would like to see if 92.1 and 94.3 comes up with something new and different.

I was expecting to read that Harold had sold out to a consolidator, which would have been a shock.

The only shock here is that it took this long for the new owner to cut Tim loose.

I just have to ask a question. I preface it by saying that I do not know Tim Miller or anything about his programming or on-air philosophy. So, why is there so much negativity about him on this board? It's not a loaded question and I do not have an axe to grind with anyone, just asking.

My personal interactions with him have been less than positive. Both on here and in person.

Professionally, my observation of his programming, strategy and execution is not favorable, as well.

What will happen to 92.1 and 94.3 eventually? New formats?

They're certainly needed. If properly programmed, I don't see why these 2 signals couldn't become successful. Country and CHR seem like the most logical formats, as they're the top non-Urban formats in the market and have no competition.

It will sure be interesting to see what happens with those to stations. If what I have read the new owners are hands on which could be a good thing. I have only listened to Davis'es other stations briefly and they sound pretty good. I will be curious to see if they try something that is safe where they can get a quicker return on their stations or will they think outside the box and try something different where they may have to spend a little more to get more in return. If I am a betting man HAC will not be done because all Clear Channel has to do is morph Steve FM in a HAC direction and I am betting as much as I would love to see it CHR won't be tried either unless they do it right and have live and local jocks on the air as opposed to NOK's VT'ed shows. I don't see urban as a candidate either since Cola-town and ICCB or who ownes them now has that locked up with DM and Hot. Would they be willing to do a Rock format? Columbia has classic rock and Alternative with Foxx, Arq, and XRY. Columbia does not have a true "Active" rock station unless you count 94.7 out of Sumter, but a good programmed mainstream rock format might do good in Columbia. I don't see Country being tried again unless Davis is willing to go all out to make it work. Everybody has tried country against WCOS and every time come up short. Even if it is a Clear Channel country station IMO COS sounds good when I stream them from IL. No matter what is tried it will be interesting to see what the outcome will be... CC

Hot 103.9's signal SUCKS! There is no building penetration in Cola with this station. It's hell to try and pick up unless your in a car. Even some mornings, 103.9 suffers from serious multipath and/or dx'ing issues in Columbia. My opinion? If I were Cumulus, I would flip Kiss to a Mainstream Urban format. Ever since 100.1 the Beat flipped, I've seen many people complain about Hot's signal in the Columbia area.

103.9's signal has always been a PITA!!! Our CE at PUB helped put Hot 103.9 back on the air and even then they always had signal issues. 98.5 Kiss FM would be interesting, but dunno how Cumulus does things in Columbia... CC1

According to Tim Miller's Facebook, he is the General Manager of Double O Columbia AND an employee of Carter Todd & Associates.

It's about time he got the ole axe. I sure hope we do not see him in Columbia anymore. His arrogance and self importance is the worst I have ever dealt with.

Wish I was there to laugh and point as he walked his boxes out to his car. ;D

Actually 98.5 was Kiss FM until several years ago when it went to 103.1 and Magic to 98.5. I don't know who wound up with the better signal.

I don't know about county, but I think CHR would definitely have a chance if this company is "hands on", and put a heavy emphasis on localization, I think they could stand a chance against CC; CHR listeners likely aren't as devoted as WCOS's. Still think if they put their everything in to it, country could do something. Maybe not, but definitely CHR.

The Kiss/Oldies swap was a smart move. It put the Urban AC signal nearer the Urban AC audience and the Oldies signal closer to the bulk of the Anglo Audience.

Now my question is when are we going to get rid of Good Morning Columbia? They are as old as dirt and boring as hell.
