No more Radio Waves?

I have not seen Ben Fong-Torres' "Radio Waves" in quite awhile. Is he still producing the column?

I hadn't thought about Radio Waves in awhile - I guess because I don't read the Chronicle (or SF Gate) on the weekends anymore. SFGate has put a lot of columnists and features behind a pay wall now , calling in sfchronicle.com which readers must subscribe to. But I was still able to access Radio Waves by Googling it. Most recent column 3/23/13.

Ben's most recent column was April 14. If you get the print edition, it's in the Datebook every other Sunday (so it'll be in this Sunday's Pink Section).

The most recent column is only on the pay site (not SFGate.com) for subscribers only.

Thanks, yes I was used to reading it on line in the free side of SF Gate.

It will be interesting to see if sfchronicle.com is a success, or not. Frankly, for me, there's nothing compelling enough there to interest me in subscribing. It costs a minimum of $12 a month whether or not you get the Sunday print edition...what's with that? I'd rather spend $3 more for the New York Times online, though I haven't taken the plunge on that yet, either. There is still plenty of good free news content on the internet.

Like most people, I'm a bit upset at the pending death of newspapers as we have known them, but I also realize that the new technology is a lot "greener" - saves millions of trees and barrells of ink, lots of electricity to run presses, and the diesel fuel and gasoline required to deliver all those newspapers.

I enjoy BFT and a few other Chronicle columnists like Matier & Ross, but I can live without them, and I don't need to hold a newspaper in my hands, anymore.

A couple of thoughts:

1) Actually with this Radio (TV) Board, most of radio Waves is old news by the time it comes out.

2) SF Examiner, for what its worth, has a great on-line presence. It has the look of the actual paper. When you turn the page, they have a newspaper sound effect of a newspaper page turning.

Old news? That's an understatement! Much of BF-T's reporting is on radio stations that existed before most of us were born. KOBY anyone?

I like the SF Examiner. Even when it was owned by the rightwinger Anschutz, they provided decent local coverage (better than the Chronicle actually).
