No more True Oldies for Orlando anymore

Yet another reason I'm glad I have Sirius. Whenever I was stuck having to listen to terrestrial radio I would try and listen to AM 810 WEUS, the Orlando station for Scott Shannons True Oldies format. I had liked the mix of music from the 1950's thru the 1970's. But all of that died today. They are now just another religious pay for play station with preachers and informorcials (we don't have enough of those here yet). How sad it is. But I guess I would expect that from a stand alone AM that put in almost no effort to sell or promote itself. Oh yea, and WOCL was not any help either, but WEUS had a two year head start to put themselves on the map

It's REAL tough to make it with Oldies on AM when you're competing directly with a full Class C FM stick.

Add WEUS' calls to the tombstone, underneath WGTO and WOTS.

Sorry to hear they gave up so easy. But when you don't market or even try, then selling or brokering the time becomes the easy way out.

one of few decent stations in the market is now gone. i have had it! these people will do anything for money. i am done with radio here. yeah, sunny is good on ocasion but that's really it. and wprk is excelent. but today marks the day when i will listen to my ipod more that ever. i guess oldies does not do well in orlando. well enjoy more ---- on am. this sucks. well i wished wfbo from flaler could come in down here. well thank god for the internet. sometimes 1560 comes in from brevard but rarely. who wants to bet they will drop that format soon? i bet it will happen. it's a trend.

two cents: ABC Citdel is the backer of True Oldies, Scott Shannon is Just a virtual DJ, and its a satellite feed. they only cover 28 stations in the US and the True Oldies format is going to change to a more 60, 70s and add some 80s, and say goodbye to the very little 50s they even try to play. Basically Like WCBS FM in NY does. ABC / Citadel is in Financial trouble anyways along side Clear Channel, they have to go where the money goes, and AM is a very tough market to compete in. The Owner of 810 AM had to do this because there is a heaping amount of money sunk into this station and the four new towers they put up on their chunk of land. They got to make it work somehow. If you miss oldies they play Sunday on 840 AM and they are going to more oldies music and finally split the talk time up. Another station trying to keep the airwaves alive, and they are one of the remaining few privately owned stations to date.

oh believe me. wfbo has been number one on my winamp now for quite sometime. Now sunny really has a chance to make a mark in this market. hopefully everyone will do the right thing here. sunny has a huge chance. I have a good feeling about this one. yeah weus was nothing to write home about but it was decent. it was nice hearing oldies on AM. maybe someone will start an lp oldies...? well, actually on the weekends in seminole county there is a station on 92.7 with "charley j" witch does play oldies and 80s music. the only thing on that is is it sounds like crap quite frankly. he has the sound destorted but i listen anyway. of course he is a pirate but it is a good station.
so yet again, an interesting one is here again.
There is a good station in vero beach on 103.7 witch i listen to in palm bay every time i go down threr. They also have 98.5 the beach down there witch is decent but not great.
I can't wait to hear what everyone says on this. it will be interesting.

The problem with radio as a business is that many stations can make more money with no listeners (excepting the 80-year-old widows exploited by religious stations) than with some listeners.

hhahahahahahhahahahahha. you know what i just thought about? i can't wait to see this station get a book under them. i bet it will be a 0. something rating. maybe those people at 810 will figure out that selling it was not such a great idea. yeah, maybe they had to but it was a big mistake on there part. quite frankly the station sucks now. i was listening at 4 in the morning out of pure bordum and i heard some guy talking and braging about how they are on like 1000 shortwave stations. ahhaha it was quite funny hearing this old guy braging. it was good entertainment at 4 in the morning with coast to coast am. people are real crazy on that show. paranormal is the word for that. so now 810 is pure boring to me. so i pray to god they don't boost that signal anymore. i heard they wanted to go to 100000 watts with the true oldies. how the hell could have that happened? i thought am stations could only go to 50000 watts? plus i heard they were not granting those kinds of licenses anymore.
sorry you all. i may come off as an ass but i'm just sayign the truth in my book. it looks like the only "oldies" station is sunny witch is not really an oldies station. so looks oldies fans may need to get satelite or hope there car radio can get 1560 out of brevard or something. it's real crazy. oldies is not lasting in this market anymore. hell, it's not lasting anywhere anymore.

Re: Speaking of ratings

The latest trends came out today. Looks like WEUS's best book was summer of last year where they came very close to beating WOCL (when they were alternative). Now WOCL's ratings have almost tripled since their format flip. I'm sure WEUS has seen the last of them ever showing up in the book. The highest rated pay for play station was WRMQ. They're at less then a 1 share with a daytime only signal.

well. i only hope radio can get better here. i have boycoted the radio here for now. I just can't stand it anymore. well ok, i should rephraise that. i listen to wprk, 102 jamz at lunch time because they play good old school hip hop, and my transmitter that i run. sunny has kind of warn off on me. too many of the same songs over and over. i keep my eye on what they play. I just hope sunny adds more to there playlist. I have a feeling someone will snap sooner or later and put a classic/new rock hybred on. maybe real rock? highly doubt it but that hope still stay in my mind. Now, i will say this. real rock has become a little bit more standable esp on saturday night. i love it. i remember on memorial day weekend hearing motorhead's ace of spades. nwo if real rock played more stuff like that it would be excelent. i also heard zz top's cheap sunglasses at one point as well. the dj said he hoped he would not get fired. i bet he was tryign to say what some of us have said before. real rock needs some classic rock mixed in. forget htq. i don't see no change for them anytime soon. they will keep playing the same old zeplan and aerosmith and all those other artists with no grunge mixed in. now i just listen to the bone from tampa and rock 105 from jax online.
ok, i know i went way off topic here. sorry. i just had to say what i thought.
