No New Adventures For "Old Christine" On ABC

One week after passing on picking up "Ghost Whisperer," ABC has decided not to rescue another cancelled CBS series, the Julia Louis-Dreyfus comedy, "The New Adventures Of Old Christine."

Not a very good year for Julia. First, the Hollywood Walk of Fame star debacle, and now this...

...and the Curse of Seinfeld goes on....

(on the positive side, she looked fabulous in the bikini on that fitness magazine)

I just checked and after the current season they'll have 88 episodes. I would think they'd try and get the additional 12 to make it to syndication.

Q: As the show is produced by Warner Brothers and they'd benefit from syndication do you see the CW picking up a half-season to get the 12 episodes? ???

I wouldn't count on The CW adding "Christine" to the roster. Plus repeats of the series is going to syndication this fall anyway.

She had a multi-season run on a show, that's a "curse" many actors would like to have.

It wasn't a classic by any means but it was a nice funny way to spend a half an hour. Of course since I liked it... :)

Actually, I kinda liked the show. Most of the time I couldn't find it. Between moving the time periods, and preemption's it was another case of CBS's WKRP in Cincinnati.

True, I think Julia broke the Seinfeld curse when she got past 13 weeks. Did anybody ever see the Michael Richards Show? It was indescribably awful.

My own opinion about Christine - I'm a fan of Dreyfuss (talented, pretty, etc.), but the show was amusing at best, and I stop caring about the characters after awhile, and stopped watching.

There seems to be an increasing tendency in comedy these days to pull humor from the characters' flaws. So the writers keep making them more and more flawed to milk more comedy out of the situations. By the end of the second season, they've turned into cynical, selfish, shallow a**holes that you wouldn't spend time with in real life. That happened with Christine.

About the "Seinfeld curse", does that apply to the old "Drew Carey show"? Although Drew had other shows, what ever happened to his costars, like Kate and Oswald? Lewis reappeared on 2 1/2 Men and like MiMi, followed Drew onto his new shows. Is there a "Drew Carey curse"?

Could be said about a lot of shows, look at Friends, Courteney Cox's show barely made it in the ratings, did get renewed and "Joey" was a total flop and the rest of the cast (except for a few movies) didn't get another show.
As far as Drew Carey,Chaig ferguson's talk show is successful.

Drew Carey Curse? Are you kidding? I had to go to imdb because I wasn't a big Drew Carey fan, and didn't remember the character's names. Kate was played by Christa Miller who has been very busy - she had a recurring role in Scrubs, and is now one of Courtney Cox's "best Friends in Cougartown. Oswald (Deidrich Bader) is all over the place in guest-star roles. He's usually consistently funny. As mentioned, Ryan Stiles has a recurring role in Two and a Half Men, worked for years on Whose Line is It Anyway, and has had plenty of other character roles.

And I don't have to tell you what Craig Ferguson is doing now, do I?

So if it is true, what one poster is alleging, that the announcer of "The Price Is Right" has been fired, does this mean that it's Drew Carey's fault? ;D

The Price is Right's announcer has been fired? What sort of message did he leave in Dick Armey's voice mail? ;D

So, has anyone heard the "new" announcer we were promised on those Geico commercials? What's holding them up, AFTRA procedures?

And while we're ranting about auto insurance commercials... or at least I am... Memo to Progressive: Enough with this "LIVE from Progressive" nonsense. You're NOT live, you're on tape, and I know because I hear the same exact Flo "You start right here" nails on a chalkboard commercial on every single radio station!

(off soapbox)

GEICO's ad campaign seems to run in cycles. They will saturate the airwaves with the Gekko for a few weeks, then shift back to the Cavemen, then smack you over the head for a month or two with the guy doing the bad Robert Stack impression. Probably just waiting for this wave of commercials to come around on rotation again.

Aniston is doing fine in getting casted for movies. Kudrow also for supporting roles. The guys haven't had as much success. So, 1-2 cast members for 6, of a successful show are able to continue their post show success in new tv or movie roles.

Married With Children is one exception with a high success rate, 3 of 4 still around. Ed O'Neill now on Modern Family, Katey Sagal around guest starring on shows, e.g. Lost, and Christina Applegate in movies.
