No News on WFSB This Morning

In My Opinion, that's a bad move in a Top 30 market. I can see them not running news on the holiday in East Elbow, Montana Population 250 people 600 cows, but not Hartford/New Haven Market #27 Population more than 1 million. Especially when the two competitors aired their news. (Both WTNH and WVIT were on 5AM-7AM as normal and WCTX 7AM-8AM). WFSB also did not air a 12PM News like the listings said. Some Better Homes and Garden Special was on. WTNH was on live with the news.

Well, here's what you would have seen on WFSB's news if they did air news:

1. It's a pretty day for a parade.
2. The president pardons a turkey.
3. Tragedy occurs when a house burns down due someone deep frying a turkey without taking safety precautions.
4. Drunk family member causes domestic disturbance, car crash etc.

I work at WTNH's sister station KRQE in Albuquerque(market #44) and we've never had news on Thanksgiving morning. Infact today we aired the Early Show live from 5-7 with our local updates, and then the Parade live from 7-10AM, followed by the all the TPIR shows until the Detroit game at 2:15MT. While the other stations KOB and KOAT aired morning news, neither had midday casts as KOB was airing the National Dog Show and KOAT cancelled their noon newscast back in August.

Hardly anyone under the age of seventy wakes up before 7AM on Thanksgiving anyways.

That should be Dallas not Detroit but I'm not a fan of either because I'm a fan of Denver. All those Ds get confusing.

The Real Reason WFSB had no News Yesterday

Okay guys. Are you ready for this? The real reason WFSB had no news yesterday is because a drunk driver hit a pole and knocked out power to more than 200 Connecticut Light and Power Customers in Rocky Hill including WFSB.

Okay. Merideth Broadcast spent millions of dollars building new state of the art studios for WFSB. Why didn't they spring for a generator? ???

It's what happens when you replace people with technology. Look at all the incicdents of technical difficulties in the middle of a newscast getting so bad the newscast is forced to sign off. With it being Thanksgiving as well, they may have not had enough production staff on hand to produce it manually in a dark-lighted studio, which is what would have happen running off generated power.

Not really. Most stations install generators that can run the lighting system. That combined with the fact that most new studios now a days use Flourescent lighting for the studio lights, that isn't the case.

As far as the power outage is concerned, I am sure that they do have a Generator and it didn't fire up. Marc where did you hear they didn't? I highly HIGHLY doubt that anyone, especially a company the size of Meredith would build a multi million dollar facility without a generator.

Nowhere. I was just making an assumption. (Yes I know the whole thing about making assumptions. Let's not get into that).
