No NFL Distribution Maps For Week 12?

Week 12 NFL maps now up

The CBS late game map may need to be updated.

CBS2/WCBS-TV in New York is scheduled for Ravens-Chargers per the station's website. The map shows Broncos-Bears going into NYC.

Wow. Oakland-Kansas City to most of the west....San Francisco-Arizona to much of the country....Looks like if you miss Thanksgiving Day, you don't have a lot to be thankful for this weekend, lol....

Trouble is, all the top teams are playing either today (Dallas, Green Bay, Indy), Sunday night (New England), or Monday (Pittsburgh). Not much left to pick from on Sunday afternoon.

If you take out the Arizona and California markets where they'd get the 49ers-Cards game no matter what (it's a sellout in Phoenix), the only other markets where this game is being televised are Reno, Houston, KC, Albuquerque, Nashville, Jacksonville, all of Ohio except Toledo, and Buffalo - not exactly "much of the country;" SF, Phoenix, Sacramento (the teams' home/secondary markets), Cleveland, and Houston are the only Top 20 markets carrying this game.

It's the only late game on Fox. Most of the country is getting Denver-Chicago as their late game on CBS.

49ers-Cards seems to be in a number of markets where the Fox affiliate's hand is forced by blackouts, exclusivity rules, or not wanting to up against a local team's road game in the early time slot. Here in Houston, for instance, the Texans home game has exclusivity on CBS in the early slot, and the Cowboys (usually on Fox here) aren't playing. Thus KRIV is stuck with the lone late game on Fox.

Thanks to J.P. Kirby for posting those maps each week!

NFL Week 12 update

JP's CBS late-game map is correct. After my earlier post went up New York got switched to Broncos-Bears. As usual the New York-area newspapers have yet to change their listings.

Bills-Jaguars has been blacked out in Jacksonville, Orlando, Savannah and Ocala/Gainesville. The Jaguars are in playoff contention yet have a hard time selling out home games.

Not that uncommon for small-market teams. The Bills always had that problem also. One of the NFL's most famous playoff games, the Bills-Oilers comeback game in 1993, was not seen on Buffalo or Rochester stations because it didn't sell out in time and was blacked out. I was only able to see the game because I was able to pull in a very snowy signal from Syracuse. Under today's rules, Syracuse would have also been blacked out.
