No one home at 700

Listening to the Reds game on 700 WLW, paused for station break, gave the weather forecast for Sunday afternoon and evening, not for today-Labor Day

Channel 5 must've been too busy with fireworks coverage to update the weather. Too bad the fireworks were YESTERDAY!!!!

Rico Suave must've been too busy picking out drapes for her next outfit

Peter Grant and JFPO never voice-tracked.. DAMN STRAIGHT we're gonna expose CC faux-pas on the blase one!

If that was around 2pm, yup, the Sunday 10 second forecast/ID aired. I turned to my wife, as I was pulling out onto traffic and said, "you just heard an outdated oops". Stuff happens.

My don't we all look for the nit-pickiest things to bitch about on this site. I guess if you aren't gainfully employed in the business, it does give you time to look at the folks who are getting a check.

As far as JFPO voicetracking, what a stupid comment...you could say, gee, it's been a long time since Eddie Fingers hit a cart machine to fire a spot. Times change. Apparently you haven't.

I don't thinkthat is nit-picky Mr. Radar. That is broadcasting incorrect infromation to air a Sunday weather forcast on Monday. CC should be the example for broadcasting not run like Norm's garage radio station. Sounds like a big fine for the average radio station. Afer all isn't WLW the "Nation's Station".

So if they have time to update their website why can't they update the weather that airs on 700WLW. I'm betting the info was wrong on 700wlw.com too.

Never heard of a fine for airing the wrong weather--might be difficult to prove since most forecasters are wrong a majority of the time...at best, educated guesses.

If you want to know what the weather is, go outside.

Somebody probably mistyped the kill date on the cut and it wound up in rotation with the correct cut. Easy to screw up this detail on NexGen. The window is really tiny and hard to read if you don't carry 20-20s in your eye sockets.

And, in fairness, it's tough to catch when you're a board-op and you're also trying to keep tabs on 7 or 8 other radio stations at the same time.

That having been said, though, as one who has been beaten mercilessly on these boards when something's gone wrong at one of my stations, we are talking about WLW. Arguably, one of the nation's most powerful AM radio stations (given its' clear channel status by the FCC). If I'm gonna beef about WING-AM in Dayton playing outdated newscasts and traffic reports, then hear about it happening on a station that covers several states during the day and lots of states at night...it would behoove you to watch it a little closer. OK?

It ain't no 250 watt daytimer. Don't treat it as an afterthought.

thank you flyingundertheradar......I wonder how many of these critics of The Big 1 are living in their mom and dads basement?

Re: No one home at 700 & at 55 KRC

No big surprise when it comes to a Clear Channel entity, but the unattended 55KRC aired nothing but roughly 24 minutes of spots STRAIGHT between 11pm and 11:30 pm on Wednesday night, while Neal Boortz was supposed to air. I happened to have the station tuned as I was heading to never-never land.

Apparently after the initial 2 minutes of the top of the hour news, they cut away to local news. Well Fox kept right on going, while the pre-recorded stop set, with Channel 5 news, weather and spots, aired, simultaneously. Not good radio! To make matters worse, the cue to begin the pre-recorded Neal Boortz did not fire > so the next stop set played > and the next, which included a 30/30 PRE-RECORDED news update at 11:12 > and the next and the next, which included the legal ID that was supposed to play at Midnight. That aired at approx 11:23 and then about a minute of dead air. Then, 3 more minutes of spots, followed by -wait for it- the opening of the Neal Boortz show, at 11:27. In addition to that, you could here the Fox News warnings coming down the pipe as well, from 11:25 until the news hit - live - at the bottom of the hour. The news of course, was playing under the pre-recorded Neal Boortz, which started about 23 minutes late.

I finally fell asleep, with a sly smile on my face, knowing how cheap that company is and this is what radio has become. Thankfully my bread is not buttered in that crappy business anymore!

If you want to see how cheap they are, take a look at their XM channel lineup. Clear Channel doesn't pay a cent for programming on their XM cluster. All the Clear Channel owned programs on the channels, which comprise the vast majority, do not receive any sort of compensation for their spot. So while Sirius was paying 650 WSM around $500,000 a year to carry them, 700 WLW gets paid nothing to be on XM. The non-CC programs on the channels either a.) charge nothing for their shows, or b.) pay for their time. On top of that, the news they do at the bottom of the hour and the half is pre-recorded, and a new one isn't recorded for at least two hours. It's amazing with all the divesting they're doing to prepare for the takeover, that they don't have plans to divest these.
