I always enjoyed reading the commentary here when ratings came out. I don't see that being done anymore? How come? I think Mike_O and, I believe, slateradio did a great job.

Well I'm still realy surprised that how well KTJM/KJOJ is doing as a rim shot of the Houston Market. KQQK/KIOX even gets a 1.3 share, KIOX is more of a Victoria Market area even. KROI is still down there at the bottom, is it time for them to change to a diffrent format? Not much else real surprise in the ratings, KBXX is still neck and neck with KTLN. one question I have, does KIKK not show up in the rattings? Is there any reason for it not to?

Easy. Nobody listens to Stern in Houston, and nobody listens to the audio feed of CNN Headline News anywhere.<P ID="signature">______________

January - or maybe right around Christmas...

I remember when stations would decide to change the format at the end of the year, lay everyone off in December, and run the station without air personalities for a month. Then, beginning with a new year, a new format - not necessarily a better format, but a "new" one.

Cox has a precedent for this in Houston. They flipped KTHT from Hot 97.1 to Country Legends on New Year's 2003.

The Point has been around for five years, and probably has run its course. Cox should expect better on the 106.9 signal.

Re: Point on life support???

That flip actually happened a week or so after New Years.
I think it happened at noon on whatever day it was.

Don't remember the date, but I remember turning it on when I left the New Years party I was at and it was still on.

I agree that it's time for something new though.

Cox flipped Hot to Country Legends at noon on January 2, 2003. I have it on tape.

We were instructed to meet in the KKBQ Control Room at either 9:00 or 10:00 that morning. Michael Cruise informed us of the format flip for 97.1 at that time. The Hot 97.1 airstaff all met elsewhere in the building at the same time and were informed of the change by Johnny Chiang. The flip did take place at noon that day and the first song played was David Allen Coe's "You Never Even Called Me By My Name."<P ID="signature">______________

Why that song?

Re: Point on life support???

Listen to the lyrics... it is "the perfect country and western song..."

I hope it was the 5 minute version. I wish KTHT had a line-up of Houston personalities. Plus, increase the size of that library. Those two things would certainly make an impact. Let the personalities be personalities and play the hits.

It is.

...it had the largest drop in ratings of all the stations on the Fall P1. 12+ trend. Infinity dropped the ax on other properties, such as WCBS, that were showing better numbers than what "The Wave" is pulling right now. Chuck, with you being employed by Infinity, do you see a shake-up in the near future for the station?

A) Is there a "short" version of that song?

B) It MAY have been the first song because the music scheduling software put it there.

C) As long as bean-counters, suits and consultants...and not broadcasters...are programming radio stations, you won't see any intelligent decisions made. Sorry...but those are the cold, hard facts of life for now. Just like...if someone actually knew what they were doing...KHPT wouldn't be doing what they're doing now and neither would KBME, KIKK or KROI.

Yes, it's 4 minutes long.

No I don't. However, anything is possible. The Wave is doing well for it's demo. I think it was flat this period. However, It's billing quite well. At this time, there is a lot of consideration being given to HD.

What is the demo for The Wave? Doctor's offices, offices in general? I know you're talking about age demographics, but I wonder if many offices will pick something like The Wave for music that will displease the least amount of people.

Re: What about the Wave?

> What is the demo for The Wave?

I would think their core is a gender balanced upper middle and upscale 35-54, judging from the presentation and music mix. The 70's-80's rock component holds white baby boomers while the 60's-70's R&B cuts are designed to grab African-Americans. If they stuck to just the jazz artists many of those listeners would drift away. And the presentation and advertising often just oozes yuppiedom.
