No reaction from 105.9? What are they thinking?

Hot 93.3, no matter what you thought about the format/music/station at least sounded like Hip Hop. The commercials, imaging, jocks. The station had a personality which is sad to have lost. So when it goes away, 105.9 changes nothing? Old sounding voices on promos/commercials, Ryan Seacrest, no on-air talent (and they could voice track to at least make the attempt)

Yes I know it's in the Aloha Trust for sale, but you would think they would at least slap some lipstick on that pig.

And let's not blame it on CC, because local markets have proven you can do a lot with no budget and a little passion.

Personally I agree. If I was running it I would also make changes. However, put yourself in their shoes. You have a jockless station that cost very little to operate and the competition just disappeared. Your station kind of like becomes the default for all the listeners that were fans of the former competition. What exactly do you have to lose here by not doing anything to it?

Then entire situation angers me.. I'm 18 and I live in San Antonio now, my mother is military and when I lived on Fort Hood I remember listening to Hot all the time ... That station was what inspired me to get into radio, after I moved to San Antonio there were some changes that I didn't like such as their new voice overs and their programming was little different but I still had a lot of respect for how Hot represented Hip Hop in the Austin community.. I saw them "beat" their competition on several occasions.. It bothers me so much that a company like Emmis that has the reputation and resources to really get into the community would abandon the Hip Hop community of Austin and Central Texas.. Hot's ratings were at the top in Killeen and Waco and they were doing real good in Austin... I think that Texas radio is mediocre and all the stations in San Antonio and Austin are some of there worst... And the websites of the Top40 and Rhythmic stations out here are insulting look at the Beats, (in San Antonio and Austin) and Kiss and Mix they are horrible they all look watered down at least Hot took enough pride to bring professionalism into this pretty young audience based genre... And as far as the new Beat in Austin I see it going nowhere at all, I wish that Austin had an Urban station like the hip hop stations on the East coast at lease they play the new songs over and over instead the old ones (with Ryan Secrest ??? ) DONE WITH RADIO IN AUSTIN (BEEN DONE WITH SAN ANTONIO)

Many of the Aloha Trust stations were transferred there as a precautionary move by Clear to insure no holdups to the "going private" deal. A number have already applied to go back home to Clear, as there was no objection to the ownership and they comply with the newer concentration rules. It is very possilble that the cluster might remain intact, particularly with the "excuse" of the current economy.

How do you compare two stations (KISS and MIX) with Hip Hop radio when they are different formats? In Mix's situation, top 40 has merged with Hip Hop in a big way. They arent doing anything different that any other top 40 station is doing around the country.

i remember when 93.3 was mix 93.3 for a short time and changed to some other format. keyi 103 jumped in and had a promotion to get invite the listerners from mix 93.3 to listen to key 103 (probably around in 1990), maybe the aloha trust is limited on thier promotions and getting the good program directors and dj's. or doesn't want to bother to improve the station. they got the oportunity to do so.

When you look at CHR (Kiss and Mix) and CHR Rhythmic (Hot and the Beat in San Antonio) then you know that they basically are competing against each other to get the young crowd...And as far as Mix goes they have emerged into a different sound compared to where they were about 4 years ago but they still could have a better website with better graphics and they could also have a better on air lineup... I just look at San Antonio and see this market with a lot of potential to have real good radio but it has stations like a small town; there isn't any distinct characteristic that the stations here have (idk about the rock stations and the adult stations just talking about Mix and The Beat and KTFM basically)

I would have to agree with you when you said all are competing for the younger crowd. And I also agree that San Antonio radio has a small market feel to it. But at the same time there have been times in my career when i have aired something edgy and told myself "Oh I'm gonna get it for that one" and nothing ever happened to me. You cant have those kind of moments in small market radio. Once again turning to Mix. In my opinion yes I once again agree that it is a completely different sounding station that it was 4 years ago. But times and music has changed and they have had no choice but to roll with the punches and change as well. Not only that a different program director emerged roughly 4 years ago.

Cox webpages and Clear Channel webpages all pretty much run off their own templates. Look at the 2 or more Cox sites, they look very similar. Same goes with Clear Channel webpages.

All in all I have a love hate relationship with this market. It has always (in my opinion) been (potentially) on the cusp of greatness. Will it ever reach that status? Only time will tell.

With no jocks, i think it's unlikely that hip hop will be the final format at 105.9. Not sure what the other choices are, but I wouldn't be surprised to see another spanish format popping up there.

I remember when 93.3 was B93 and Kiss was just plain ol' KHFI, and then enter KNNC. Those were good stations. BTW, B93 left in mid-'92.
