No Repeat Workday - 103.5 KTU

Just thought I would come on here and say that I have been listening to KTU during the daytime and I love the variety of dance music they are playing now. It never used to be like this before, they used to play the same current songs evey two hours but that doesnt happen anymore. I'm glad KTU has gone this route, it sounds great especially with all the classics they have been playing(La Bouche, Reel 2 Reel, Real McCoy, etc.).

KTU is starting to sound like a "Dance Station" again. Keep up the good work!

Any opinions??

Sounding more like a clone of Mix 102.7. KTU if they were smart would add more current dance songs.

KTU is not a clone, Mix is the clone of KTU. I agree KTU should add more currents though.
______________

I wish k-rock and z100 would follow suit.

You have that backwards, Mix is a KTU clone.
It's KTU that was playing that music originally.

I think he means that K-Rock and Z100 should do a no Repeat workday.

Yeah okay the largest CHR top 40 radio station will do a no repeat workday. Do you know anyhing about the top 40 format? It lives on the 90 minute rotation, playing the hottest 40 hits..hense top 40. Z100 is steady. K-Rock on the other hand could. Q104.3 has variety but doesn't use the no repeat moniker.

MIX and KTU are not clones

While MIX is NY's number 2 dance station they are much more focused than KTU.
They cater to classic dance while KTU caters to whatever dance the spirit moves them to at the moment. KTU's no repeat work day is a good ploy, sounds like they're trying to be the JACK of dance, most dance fans don't want to hear Shape UK followed by Donna Summer.
Bottom line, with MIX finally having picked the direction of classic dance would KTU not be wiser to drop the classics and get to the current dance..?

KTU and Mix are competing head to head in battle. KTU doesn't want listeners to switch to the Mix.
______________

This discussion isn't about K Rock or Z100. You seem obsessed with K Rock.

To clailify my earlier post, I was not stating tht Z100 should do a no repeat workday. I know by definition Top 40 stations have to repeat song throughout the day.I was merely clairifying what I though that Ozman was suggesting.

Ozman: "I wish k-rock and z100 would follow suit."

Garret:"You wish for K-Rock to play dance music????"

My earlier post:I think he means that K-Rock and Z100 should do a no
Repeat workday.

Nowhere did I state that I was agreeing that Z100 should not repeat songs duing the workday.

I don't agree with you. Their playlists are quite different aside from the classics KTU throws in.
MIX is classic dance and KTU is ALL OVER THE BOARD dance.
Listen in the evening to KTU and you'll hear this Latin Free for all with Reggeton mixes, etc..Listen at the same time to MIX and you'll hear their focus as always on classic dance.

What's funny to me is that people used to make fun of BLINK being all over the board and now that KTU does it you don't hear a peep.

You make some good points.

I thought Blink wasn't a bad station. Just my opinion on that. Mix's early days were enjoyable to listen to too.
______________

Well yes & no... they play a wide variety of songs, but not like the old Blink or the current Jack that hops from ballads to upbeat tracks and then back again from countless genres like rock, pop, dance and r&b...

The only thing KTU is all over is dance... It's pretty clear from listening to them any length of time what they feel they have been and are and what they play... their "definition of dance" sweepers clearly spell it out and the no repeat middays only help strengthen that definition... KTU is dance from the the classics to the fresh beats and reggeton. KTU plays all of dance, not just some of it, as any station calling themselves "The Beat of NY" should.
______________

Do you think Reggaeton is dance?
Are ballads by Mark Anthony dance? I don't and have never understood how they call themselves dance and no matter what "their" definition of dance may be, dance fans like a certain type of dance within the genre of dance.
Do current dance fans listening to DHT like Kool and the Gang?
Probably not.
KTU has been and is a successful dance station but if they're going to continue to play reggaeton followed by classics, ballads and currents, they'd better be careful not to lose their core to those who like their "dance" a little more fine tailored.

It would probably be smart to have the core of their music current dance and 90s, but mix in other dance songs a little, not too much though.
