No score again on 'KNR

Looks like it wasn't a fluke on 'KNR last week. I've now heard two updates during Roda's show, and both of them did not even mention the Indians were playing. Nor have I heard Kenny talking about the game, something he has always done. Instead, he's giving two hours to a stand-up comic.

I CAN'T be the only one to find this odd/stupid/silly, can I? The all-sports station COMPLETELY ignoring the baseball team that is a few games out of a playoff spot.

Luczak, if you read this, GROW UP! And how do you keep a job? Another decision that makes you a laughing-stock.

Unless if it is indeed a legal issue brought by the Indians, and possibly WTAM, too. If that's the case, ol' 850 would be better served with reruns of Jim Rome or ESPN Radio. Put in one of those "Media Power" infomercial tapes, that's easy $$$ ;) Or just turn off the transmitter - it ain't worth it.

I don't think I can blame Luczak for this, even though he's only the PD there because - re: Larry Dolan - he's cheap enough.

I think the legal-thing is just a joke. Go to anytown-USA that has a sports station without the play by play. They're giving the scores. 'TAM gave the scores of the All Star Game while it was on 'KNR. This just smells of Luczak making another bad decision.

Who on earth started the rumor that WKNR can't deliver Indians scores for legal reasons? That is ludicrous. In markets like Pittsburgh where ESPN 1250 doesn't carry the Steelers they do a 3 or 4 hour Steelers pre and post show. Same with WTVN in Columbus with the Buckeyes. They even go as far to promote on billboards that WTVN has the best Buckeyes Sports Coverage in town. THEY DON'T EVEN CARRY THE PLAY-BY-PLAY.

I don't know why WKNR doesn't announc ethe scores, but it has nothing to do with legal reasons.

Great point and post!!

Perhaps someone can email Michael Luczak and ask?

And then POOF, there was the score!!!

Being that the station is a train-wreck, I had to see how this would end. So I'm listening to Roda spend more than one segment interviewing some local schmuck pro wrestlers. Their last local update did not have the score, again. But about 15 minutes later, the game ended. It was then, and only then, did Roda make his first comments about the game, followed by Bob Karlovick going over the contest...followed by Bob's one-hour postgame show.

Sooooooooooo, let's reflect, shall we? The station previews the game during their shows and updates all day. The game starts, and the Indians don't exist. Right after the last out, it's all-Indians, all the time. Amazing how that worked.

Need we say anymore about the station or its management? My heart goes out to the employees, it really does. If Luczak reads this board....dude, get a grip. I'm guessing he doesn't want to promote the flagship rights-holder. But did he ever think that perhaps if his station DOESN'T give the score, they'll tune elsewhere to find it anyways?

Somewhere, John Antus is rolling over in his grave, God rest his soul.

Let me ask this: If the score is close and WKNR announces it do they risk losing listeners to either watching the game or listening to it on WTAM?

Why would you intentionally tell your listeners to turn to a very compelling and close Indians game? That doesn't sound like very smart programming decisions to me.

I think those of you who keep screaming about this do NOT represent the majority of WKNR listeners.

And if I want to know the score and they aren't giving it, guess where I'm going....that's right somepace else.

Well if you want to know the score, then why wouldn't you just tune into the game itself?

Toddohio makes perfect sense. Those who are interested in the game are tuned in to the station airing it -- either radio, TV or both. Those who aren't are listening to something else.

I address this in a recent entry on the Mighty Blog of Fun(tm) ;)

Basically, though you're certainly right, it seems rather silly for the market's all-sports station to act like the market's MLB team doesn't exist while they are playing a game. WKNR only runs into the problem when the Tribe plays before 7 PM, since they don't do local sports updates after 7, and they can't control ESPN's Radio SportsCenter updates.

Solution: Give the current score VERY briefly, without embellishment or details, and turn it into a promo for the station's own "Tenth Inning with Bob Karlovic".

Re: And then POOF, there was the score!!!

Maybe if the station had some professional talent...then people would listen regardless of what the score is or if there was a baseball game on. Back in the day..WHK used to bank on the fact that you could watch the game on the TV..and have an avenue where they could vent DURING the game. That's what RODA should be doing. Ripping the Tribe during the game...and taking calls in the meantime. Everyone knows Hamilton's going to make excuses when an outfielder gaffes...so that's why you listen to Roda so he can tell you what's really going on. Just a thought...a damn good one.

Maybe I'm just a casual fan that likes what the talk show host is talking about but am curious as to the score. Because honestly, I hate listening to baseball on the radio, but tune in to hear a score every once in a while. If the station I'm listening to, gives that score, I won't turn it.
