No so "Hot In Cleveland."

After reading some of the comments posted on here I am in agreement that Betty White's role should be increased. And yes Valerie Bertinelli looks great at age 50.

What will make or break this show depends on the ratings for the next month. If there is a major decline in viewership, then TV Land executives could pull the plug on the show. If the opposite occurs, then the show will be around for a while.

I don't think any of us can dispute the cast. It's awesome. You couldn't ask for three better leads. Add in Betty White, who is always good in anything and even John Schneider was a welcome site.

Casting is not a problem with this show. All are talented and all are very good at comedy.

The thing is the writing reminds me of the syndicated sitcoms of the 80s like "Charles In Charge," "It's A Living" and such.

It's not so much that the script was bad, it just that with a cast this good, the writing should be better. And with a stand out script, this cast could and should be prime time network fare.

It will also be interesting to see how the ratings for "Cleveland" fare against "South Park" which airs at the same time (though obviously aimed at two different demographics).

The second episode was much better than the debt show last week. There is a chemistry developing between the main characters and the writing has improved.

Meanwhile, "Cleveland" comes crashing to Earth, as ratings for its second episode lost over a million viewers from its debut episode:

Not surprising - it's because the first episode sucked. Regardless of how 'hot' viewers think Valerie is, or how funny and old-spunky Betty is, the scripts have to back that up with good writing. So far, at lest, there has been no support from the writers.

First impressions do count on TV. If your debut show sucks, then despite all of the hype, a lot of viewers are not going to waste their time watching the second episode. So anyone want to bet how long this show will last before TV Land executives pull the plug? After all it's one thing to have a network just air reruns of old 1960s and 70's shows; it's quite another to spend money on their own program.

Nor should it be written off. It won the time period in cable among women 25-54, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.

I agree the 2nd episode was better and the writing was much improved. The problem is Betty White is literally stealing every scene she is in.

Now they have the girls sitting around the kitchen at night discussing problems. Hmmm sound familiar? Only it's with wine not cheesecake.

Best line of the episode:

Melanie) When Joy was a teenager she got pregnant

Elka) I'm not surprised

Victoria) And now she thinks she might be dating her son

Elka) Still not surprised

I can't help but feel that that this use of Betty White is going to be eventually as successful as Lucille Ball was on her last show which was dreadful.

You brought up a good point.

Life with Lucy, which aired for just a few weeks on ABC, was just horrible and a personal disappointment for Lucy. It's kind of sad that her last TV show was actually her last TV show since she died a few years later following heart surgery.
I enjoyed it. It was great to see Lucy and Gale Gordon back together again. and personal computers didn't exist in the days of her other shows, so we had to have her cause a disaster with one. She attached refrigerator magnets to the monitor. Not a good idea.

However if Hot in Cleveland bombs, I don't think one can put the blame on Betty White. In the pilot episode Ms. White appeared for a total of about five minutes. If that is all the air time she's going to get, then the other three actresses, and the writers, will have to shoulder the blame if the show doesn't make it.

Nobody can do comedy in Cleveland as well as Drew Carey
(although Valerie and Jane Leeves were smokin' hot, and I
greatly admire Betty White for having a day job at age 88!)

The 4th episode was the weakest of the lot. I will admit I'm not a fan of Heuy Lewis as an actor (though some of his songs were catchy). And Amy Yasbeck is another great guest star. The writing for this show was a quarter as good as the casting, it'd be solid.

Note to writers, if every other joke is about oral sex, that's a bad thing.

Season 3 on TV Land.............what does that give HOT IN CLEVELAND about 15 shows now.
Whoopie!!!!

Season 1 had 10 episodes.

Season 2 has 20. 10 airing through March 23rd. The other 10 will air this Spring/Summer.

That brings the total number of episodes to 30.

Season 3 reportedly will have 22 episodes, so that will bring it to 52 episodes.
