Has anyone else noticed a lack of sweepers on KTBZ? One song will just go straight into the next. Is this a good change, or a bad one?

agreed, they could probably start by having all of the jocks be themselfs. I mean I know some of them depend on those liners to have a successful break, but after a while I get tired of hearing which Jock is going to be at which location, and their break consisting of just that.

You know, there were more than five alternative songs in the 90s...try PLAYING THEM. I find it odd that KTBZ's new music is mostly harder stuff, but the gold cuts are lighter stuff. According to yes.com, they played Lifehouse, Dishwalla, and Third Eye Blind today. Why not let the sister station play this stuff?

At least they get in some Snow Patrol, Angels and Airwaves, She Wants Revenge. I think the music could be more progressive, but what do I know. And the more I listen, the more the "no sweepers" situation bothers me. It feels like something is missing. Where is the station branding? :

yes heaven forbid they play other music besides hard...i mean they are houstons new Rock (which isnt new) and Alternative (which never gets played)...i guess it is just the fact that it is Houstons only Rock station that plays alternative (which they don't) and so thats what makes it new? They should also try getting some new jocks...or atleast rotate some of them

I don't think there is a real problem with the jocks. For the most part they do ok. Not saying the situation is perfect, but I wouldn't want to see anything happen to the afternoon or midday shift.
Just for clarity, I'm not saying they should only play harder stuff...I'm just saying if that's all they are going to play of new music, then don't just play light older stuff. You want to hear a real alternative station called "The Buzz", listen to www.965thebuzz.com , which ironically is in the same building the Vince Richards, Don Jantezen, and Theresa used to work in.

Well I am glad we got someone to correct me, For your info MattKuhl, Houston's New Rock Alternative was created because when the KLOL krew switched to KIOL The Buzz wanted a hold on the rock scene...get your story straight pumpkin-

Yes, it was already there. From Wikipedia: The current format signed on 107.5fm at 11AM, Monday, October 31, 1994. Under the call letters KRQT as "The New Rocket 107.5 - Houston's New Alternative". Those of us in Houston remember The Rocket, and the changes that happened to get to where we are today. We also remember when KLOL flipped that the Buzz picked up some of their programming. Like Mandatory Metallica. Some of the music changed. All staying within format, and the changes may have been subtle, but they were there. The station went from being a run of the mill Alt Rock station to being a little harder, a little more agressive. Not long after that change, the positioning statement changed. So I think maybe that's what Bryan is referring to. Format didn't flip, but things changed.
