I'm sick of Raleigh radio, there is NO variety whatsoever. The Raleigh market probably has THE Worst stations out of any big market. Why oh Why are there 3 stations playing Pop music? Does Raleigh really need 3 stations playing the same music. Am I the only sick of the lack of variety in this market?? I know I'm not alone. This market has been the same boring market for the longest time and I don't see anything changing about it in the foreseeable future. Spice it up a little bit. Try some formats that don't play on one or more stations.
 
I was thinking this the last time I was in Raleigh. Awesome place, but I heard much better radio in Charlotte and the Triad. There are a few good stations, but there just didn't seem to be any variety, really.
 
Wow, what a far cry from the early 90's. Honestly, the Triangle had the best radio anywhere during that time period.

That's probably because most (young, hip, new-technology) people in Raleigh have turned away from radio to other entertainment media. And the stations themselves have been corporately neutered (or spayed? are they male or female?) What's left for stations to air but bland formats pandering to the remaining regular, old, stodgy masses? :)

What would you suggest? All of the popular music formats seem to be convered. Muzak has deeper playlists than most oldies stations. Conservative talk is saturated. Liberal talk is a ratings loser.

Maybe it's time for "All Marimbula, All The Time".
 
Why do you think it is that no one has turned on and committed to a true AAA format in Raleigh? It seems like a progressive market with enough ears in the 30 - 55 demo to support AAA.
 
I agree Robbie. But that format requires a strong PD and patience from Management to develop. Both of those are rare finds.
Done right, it would be a ratings and revenue winner. A true lifestyle type station that's plugged into all things good in the Triangle.

I listen to KFOG online. Great Traditional AAA and ratings winner for over 20 years.
I'd love a local version.
 
AAA is what 96.1 should be right now, not Rock AC or whatever you call this. Raleigh can certainly support a AAA (an AAA done right, not like CC tried when they first flipped 100.7).
 
IMHO, Triad radio is better than Charlotte, the largest city in the state.

I prefer the Triad with 100.3/The Buzz, 98-7Simon & Rock92 & even 93.3/The Planet & Magic98.9 in the Greenville/Spartanburg SC market to Charlotte.

There must be a reason why many artists play the Greensboro Coliseum instead of Charlotte.
 
I'd like to see how Pulse would do if it had a better signal. I mean, 102.3/102.5 don't cover the market very well, fully. At least the Raleigh side. The numbers are pretty good seeing the signals it's on.

Here's an idea (JMO): how about a 102.3/96.9 simulcast of Pulse? La Ley could go to 102.5? That way, Pulse could have a good signal in the Durham/Chapel Hill side via 102.3 AND in the Raleigh/Cary side via 96.9. I know Regional Mexican bills well for them, but it seems like Pulse has potential as well.

It's the opposite. I think 102.3 and 96.9 are actually on the same tower.

My bad. Have only gotten to physically listen to them once. To be clear, I was suggesting that La Ley move to 102.3 then and Pulse to 96.9/102.5 to give them a pretty reliable signal across the market.
 
I believe Ley needs the 100kw stick for continued success. RDU has a fair amount of hispanics of Mexican origin. However, I believe many of their listeners are east of RDU, as well. For example, little WETC AM was starting to see some numbers, before WYMY went espanol. And, that was without coverage of the western triangle. Now, at least WETC has WDUR repeating it. So, to move Ley to 102.5 or 102.3...or even 102.9 would be suicide for it. They would lose alot of rural audience. Unless one of Pulse's signals can be increased, I think they are stuck. Their ONLY real choice would be to swap 96.1 and 102.3/102.5...and I don't think that's gonna happen.
