No we are not that dumb CC

As I wait for my sirius car kit to come in the mail I am stuck with what the folks at CC are trying to shove down our throats while I drive to work in the mornings. On the drive in this morning I hear Iron Maiden on the arrow, and I was shocked ! Shocked that Maidien is also playing a concert here in the near future (heavy on the sarcasim). Come guys, you run MOST of the stations and run A HIGH PERCENTAGE of the concerts. The only reason Madien get's on the playlist at 6:00am in the morning on the Arrow is because CC is also promoting the concert. I am sure that Madien at 6:00 am on the Arrow went over like a turd in the punch bowl for average "CLASSIC ROCK" fan.

The theory was that new-music outlets were supposed to drive CD/album sales. Since classic rock and oldies outlets have no new products to sell the listeners, the focus is always going to be on driving concert ticket sales. You're absolutely on-target when you notice that correlation.

CC no longer has a concert division and, thus, can not be promoting concerts. They have not had a concert division for years!

Not sure if they still do, but CC has owned LiveNation for quite a while.

CC spun Clear Channel Entertainment off as a private company two years ago.

Right, but there are still interests in Universal Music Group, LiveNation, and InstantLive.

aunti, you should have worked for thwe Warren Commission. I'm sure you could have connceted whomever owned the building to Cuba and the pizza man too. How many shows have you ever seen the LIVECD thing at? The answer is zero. Universal Music Group and Clear Channel have a partnership in that thing. Universal Music Group, the record label is an entirely different entity. I'd be willing to venture a guess that you probably made more money last year than the livecd concert thing.. give it a rest, you hate cc.. get in line.

Didn't you move to Dallas? By the way, I've always wondered about the nickname "Chinstrap." Care to elaborate?

Hate is a pretty strong word, and one that doesn't apply to me. However, you're probably correct---there's a lot of money to be made in locally-produced music, shows, and support, and I'm not doing so bad. Have a great day!

I looked at the filings of Live Nation, and Clear is not an owner of any reportable number of shares. They spun 100% of their interest in the entertainment division to shareholders in January of 2006.

They are not shareholders of Universal or InstantLive. CC has joint ventures, and tiny ones, with those companies. A joint venture is where two or more participant put technology, money or sweat equity towards a new business. None of the participants, however, suddenly own parts of the other participants. Please update yourself on business terms and practices before you make this kind of statement or accusation.

Fellas, fellas....slow down. Now let me get this right. The Arrow played Maiden this morning? The Arrow? in Houston? Played Maiden?

Hey Fixx, for my next request, how about some Motorhead and Venom?

How's about this for irony. I'm "working from home" right now freakin' watching Maiden's '85 show from Long Beach. Tickets go on sale tomorrow. Oh yes, there is a god.

;D

The point, Dave E is why in the F would the arrow play Iron Maiden at 6:00 am in the morning. Now that you've pointed out that CC has no financial interest in driving concert sales it makes even more weird that they would obviously try and promote a concert that are not going to make any money off of.

i can't think a station that doesn't play odd rotations of artists when they're comin to town. where ya been?

ToonDaddy

I just hear "Too Shy" on KHMX. Please tell me Kajagoogoo is coming to town.

Radio stations promoting big name concerts is a load of K-R-A-P! Let me guess: The Aarow played Run to the Hills to promote the Maden ha? And why do stations that NEVER play an artist or band's music, weather new or any of their material, would promote these concerts? I remember Magic 105 in San Antonio promoting the Ten Tenors and Josh Groban on their staitons, but you never, ever, heard thier music on the station. No classic rock staiton is going to touch Springsteens new album to promote his concert...assuming he will be making a stop in Houston. And last: why the hell are non country stations promoting country concerts for the Rodeo, and why are country stations promoting Fergie's concert? Like larry the cable guy said "it's like wiping before you poop, it don't make a lick of sense."

This has to be the dumbest thread I've seen in a while.
It has always been practice that if a show comes to town, you play the artists music and highlight it. KKRW has in fact played Maiden before this supposed one time. You guys moan and complain about the lack of music variety, then you think there is a conspiracy factor in play when you hear something out of the ordinary. I know most of you are haters of CC, I am not a lover nor hater, just someone who has never worked for CC and don't care about what they do or don't. I have come to the conclusion that there are 2 types of people on this board CC haters and CC lovers. Where can we just get a neutral view on whats happening in the radio market without name calling, accusations and child's play.
Me, just read this stuff, laugh and realize some of the lowest forms of life are on this board.
Sorry, but it's true. Whether you like it or not.

Excuse me?

As I wait for my sirius car kit to come in the mail I am stuck with what the folks at CC are trying to shove down our throats while I drive to work in the mornings.

No one can shove anything on the radio down your throat without your permission. Don't listen to it if you don't like it. Or do you have one of those radios that are locked on one station without an On/Off switch?

You're not "stuck" with anything. And don't complain about something you listen to willingly. Get a grip.

Fillio is right. Its a matter of choice. You choose to listen to what you listen to. If the radio isn't good enough for you, buy an IPOD, CD, Cassette, 45, or whatever choice you want to make. Quit complaining. Theres a lot of angry people on this board. What's with all the hate? It's very counter-productive.
