No X, No Buzz, No New Rock

Wow has anyone stopped and pondered:

1) that in less than 15 months we've gone from two commerical stations programming some variant of alternative (99x and CC's attempt to 'block' 99x with 105.3 'The Buzz') ... from two stations playing alternative to .... uh none? I say commerical because there's always Album 88.

2) Other than New York, I think Atlanta is one of only two top 10 markets without a station reporting as "Alternative", no?

3) Clear Channel put all those resources into Buzz (and Project) to jap at 99x, only to have a weakened 99x be the catalyst for the 96 Rock brand and The Regular Guys resurrected on 100.5? Is it possible with TRG that 100.5 in week 1 is already billing more than 96.1?

If they have not already they probably will soon be outbilling Project.

Hey, if you are bored at your computer one day, check out bulldog1037.com - big variety plus currents.
There is something to be said about being able to play whatever. It's not very focused but it sure is fun to listen too.

Do you have an ETA on when Bulldog will be on their new tower in Pendergrass? In Suwanee, I am JUST out of range with the new signal. Radio-Locator.com has the new signal reaching Gwinnett pretty well. Music-wise, Bulldog kicks Project's butt.

And what was with that Barbra Streisand weekend stunt a couple years ago?

Caller 10 brings up some good points and I'm glad someone finally has. Currently, there is no commercial radio station in Atlanta that you'll find playing bands like Radiohead, Interpol, Muse, Gorillaz, etc. There is a market for this kind of music! - just don't understand why the big guns at the radio stations here in Atlanta no longer thought so. Just weeks ago, Radiohead's In Rainbows was the top selling CD in the country and was one of the top rated downloads on ITunes - and this was even after the very publicized promotion of the band offering the album for free from their web site.

Will these types of alternative acts even bother to make a stop in Atlanta with no commercial radion station to promote and sponsor their concerts?

So glad I have Ethel 47 on XM ... but sad this kind of music is no longer being played on Atlanta radio.

Well we have 3 classic rock stations at least ;) Don't say that Project isn't, they've played 'American Woman'. Maybe classic rock isn't accurate, how about corporate rock?

Dave should tweak their playlist... will it happen?

A little too big a variety for my own personal taste ... but Friday nights are the most fun I've had with a radio in years :)

To former 99x listeners, I feel your pain. Up to about three years ago, Huntsville used to have an alternative rock station (WRAX-The X) bleeding in from the Birmingham market. We lost the coverage here during the frequency swap that was similar to this recent one in Atlanta. Now all we got left for new rock is an active rock station (The Rocket), which I find the format to be very boring and repetitive for my taste.

For those who want oldies so much, why don't you all move to northern Alabama? We got a bunch of oldies stations for your listening pleasure. ;D

Anyone else besides me feel like an orphan? All week on my way to &from work I kept pushing buttons trying to find a station to listen to. Hearing the bert show where 99X should be makes my ears bleed.
I miss 99X.

What are you smoking and will you share?!?!

1)Project still plays some Alternative bands. It may not be 100% Alt Rock but it is still trying to serve the audience more so than any other commercial station in town.

2)In my non professional opinion Alt Rock is dying across the nation and you are seeing a comeback of some older rock. Probably in great part to Guitar Hero.

3)Very doubtful as they have had very few advertisers and many commercials all week (Promoting 99x events) versus the many advertisers that Project and River have on the air. Doubtful Rock will reach to many milestones billing wise this year since they will be fighting the stronger stations of the River and Project for $. It took a long time for Q100 to catch up billing wise to Star 94 and they were only fighting one station not 2 like Rock 100.

Alternative Rock if programmed right can survive. I believe it can comeback if done right with the right people.
