Nobody listens to AM skywave anymore?

In the unfortunate event that this facility must be used in a real emergency, I hope WTAM and KMOX agree to shut off their hash generators, or the money will have been wasted.

I guess this is just another instance which shows just how clueless our government really is.

Yeah, I was gonna say: is anyone going to clue in the FCC about the HD skywave problems on AM? The FCC keeps insisting there have been "no complaints."

And nobody has been able to explain to me why the Enforcement Bureau has chosen not to read WYSL's two detailed HD interference complaints (one running more than 40 pages) filed against WBZ. They have completely ignored them. And a personal e-mail to Peter Doyle directing his attention to them produced a terse response to "put something in writing."

Nobody but the engineers get what happens when you add the IBOC hash at night. Step by step...First, you can calculate the power being transmitted on the adjacent channel. It's not the occasional analog peaks like the NRSC mask was intended to cover. It's an always ON/OFF digital signal. Second, take that power level and treat it like a "new" nighttime signal you intended to license. 2 watts, 200 watts, whatever. Third, run an NRSS study to see if the "new" station would be licensed. In most cases, no.

Nighttime interference is cumulative. It adds up.

But, no one seems to care. This is not just a skywave issue. IBOC impacts raises (decreases) the NIF countour of all stations adjacent to the IBOC stations.

I read somewhere that the government subsidized an emergency studio for WALK 97.5 and it was used during the blizzard 2 weeks ago.

For once, I agree with you. Pure government waste. Congrats taxpayers - you just bought a profitable station a generator.

Yes WBT used to come in great here in Upstate NY. Its signal still does okay but it would come in a lot better if the Big One WTAM would shut off its IBOC hasher.

I dont get how the FCC can turn its back on IBOC interference. Ibiquity probably enjoys the added analog noise because it makes there digital signal sound better.
