Hi,
We use an analogue link for outside broadcasts. Usually there's a bit of smooth noise in stereo on the received signal. This then feeds our normal airchain, the main air processor being an Orban 8200. We have some limiting on the OB studio to prevent the transmitter overdeviating but no compression or AGC.
I've noticed that the 8200 tends to accentuate the noise on the link during quiet periods. I've found some adjustments to the 8200 improve things but I don't believe that's where we should be addressing the issue. Would running more processing on the OB studio be the recommended solution? I'd like to avoid relying on additional processing in the airchain but, perhaps, in this case it would improve the overall audio quality? I have an Orban Co-Operator that I can use.
Be interested to hear other people's experiences and recommendations.
Thanks,
Steve.
