Non Christian Religious Stations

While reading the post about religious stations serving the public interest I got to thinking.

Are there any religious stations in the USA that are on air and NOT primarily Christian? Like Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, etc...

I remember before Pax bought WCPX Channel 38 in Chicago, it was WCFC (Christian Federation of Chicago) and they would air one or two Jewish shows a week.

In Chicago we have several low-power ethinic stations but I have not really seen any Muslim or Jewish or even the Indian programming they air isn't Hindu, really it's secular. Well from what I can tell.

I am refering to over the air TV stations(full power or low power), not cable.<P ID="signature">______________

Is that a cable network, or an over-the-air one? If the latter, where does it air?

There is a Baha'i radio station in South Carolina. I don't know of any non-Christian religious TV outlets in the States.

Many Christian TV stations air programs that would appear to some to be "Jewish shows" -- two come to mind, "Jewish Jewels" and "Zola Levitt." But these are programs that are produced by and geared to "Messianic Jews," people who believe in Jesus as the Messiah but include Jewish rituals in their worship. Those beliefs and practices are rejected by virtually all mainstream Jews. Mainstream Judaism (Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, and Reconstructionist Judaism) considers "Messianic Jews" to be Christians, not Jews, and those programs should not be considered "Jewish shows" -- if they are the ones you are talking about.

On most stations, the Indian ethnic programming isn't Hindu. it's secular - bollywood oriented (news, music-mix) etc. In D.C./VA, WNVC does lot of South Asian but not-bollywood oriented programming, including more news(secular) and some religious oriented programming like "Sikh program" (Sikh), "Mahabharat" (Hindu) not found in NYC Market or other markets on broadcast. Of course, Dish Network and DirecTV carry 24x7 premium subscription ethnic channels too.

That's WLGI-FM/90.9, Hemingway---a 50,000 watt at 600 ft that serves the Myrtle Beach and Florence markets. Definitely a cool station--plays jazz, reggae, hip-hop, as well as all types of gospel music (including southern). They cover all religous traditions, not just Baha'i, though they are operated by the Baha'i. They have always been about racial and religous reconciliation. This is a true religous station, unlike most of the "christian" stations we are familar with.

Maybe other religions aren't quite as adept at getting people to reach deeeeeep into their wallets! Sending in that Green Salad of Salvation.
