Non- Comm Personalities

Which non commercial station in this market has the best "up and coming" air talent in your opinan?
In other words, who could be taken off a non-comm tomorrow and thrown on comercial station the next day?

There are a few stations:

KPLU
KASB
KNHC
KEXP
KUOW
KMIH

Personally i am a huge fan of KMIH, They have a wonderfully well developed programming dept. (it would appear)
And a few Personalities have huge potential.

A few i've noticed that go by

"Nina" and "St. Nick" Both are awesome, give them show prep they will fly!
"Rich Brown" and "Pat the Kat" have a east coast style to them that wouldnt work for Comm. Radio in seattle
but maybe other areas in the country

KNHC relies so heavily on non student support its tough to fairly evaluate them
"Drew Baily" and "Richard J Dalton" are good!

KPLU has NPR as well as KUOW so some may work with commercial AM

Your thoughts?

KEXP is another station that doesn't have much student support. Not like it was when it was KCMU.

You also left KBCS off the list. KBCS is more grass roots and does encourage student suport. There is also the rim shot KVTI, Steilacoom and KGRG, Auburn.

Out of the above stations which are more likely to give that green announcer their first chance at being on the air? I see two groups here.

A student looking to get into radio has more of a chance of getting on air experiance at KASB, KBCS, KMIH, KVTI, KGRG and KNHC.

KPLU, KUOW and KEXP are not known for grooming new raw talent. They treat their air staff as PAID Talent. Big difference. Listening to these stations you almost get a commercial feeling.

I think KMIH's Nina works at Kiss 106.1 on Sunday's? I'll listen for her. Yeah, I'm a big fan of non-com radio, too. You left out KUPS at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, though they are only 100 watts.

I don't listen to a whole lot of non-com but I like Steve Scher (sp?) - I know some may disagree but I like his style a lot ...
