Noon FM DX....

I found 94.3 "Hill Country Rock", around 12:45 PM today. Signal was ok with lots of fading. I did not get to hear a station ID, but heard an ad for something in Kerrville. Another ad for something at a location at some junction and hwy 16. I haven't heard of this station before and they were playing some pretty decent rock, compared to what we have here. Anyone know who this is and where they're from? I guess the weather had something to do with it.

Also picked up 96.5 "The Beach" from CCTX and 96.7 and 94.7 from Austin/San Marcos. Pretty good signal for noontime. Better than 94.3.

The 94.3 signal you received originates from Kerrville. They flipped from "Americana" to Classic Rock sometime around January 1. I live in Comal County and pull in KRVL relatively well; KTFM does bleed over in certain areas around my property. KRVL does have a good selection of Classic Rock. A decade ago, KRVL was Country and 92.3 was Classic Rock. In 2000, 92.3 became Country ("The Ranch") and 94.3 segued to Americana and now 94.3 plays Classic Rock.

I haven't heard "The Beach" as much since a 96.5 signed on out of Ingram (Kerrville area). 93.9 out of Corpus and 99.9 from Robstown/Corpus Christi are regular visitors as well. 99.9 may battle with a new station out of Hunt in parts of San Antonio.

When I used to live in SA, I would sometimes pick up WACO 99.9 on the east side of town, fighting with 99.9 in Corpus, of course. There was one night where 95.7 was off the air and I was able to pull i 95.7 in Houston while on I-10 close to downtown. Occasionally I would pick up The Beach from Corpus, and on a rare occasion, it would fight with Mix 96.5 in Houston. It was real hard to pick up hill country stations; you literally have to drive into Kerville city limits to pick up those stations, and most would still fight with SA stations ie 94.1 & 94.3.

DXing is fun. I've been able to get Magic, KISS & KJ97 here in Houston on a few occasions.

Back to the Houston boards, praying when..if CBS takes over 101.1 they flip it to rock.

The last time I was in San Antonio, which was about 15 years ago, I had no trouble getting KLTG 96.5, KRYS-FM 99.1 and the old KYTX 97.9 from the Corpus Christi area. KLDE 94.5 and KIKK 95.7 from Houston were also there pretty much all-the-time. KOYE 94.9 from Laredo was an easy catch, too. Pretty much everything out of Austin came in, with the exception of the lower powered stations like KPEZ 102.3, as well. The only Kerrville station I got was KRNH 95.1. I was using the car radio of a '94 Plymouth Voyager, which was an exceptionally good radio.

Of course, with the glut of move-ins, getting all of those stations wouldn't likely be so easy now. With 95.1 moving into San Antonio, that probably eliminates any realistic chance of picking up KQUR 94.9. The same can be said with 95.7 out of Jourdanton, which will stomp all over Houston. KYTX was downgraded and moved to 107.1, possibly as part of moving 97.7 closer to San Antonio. I believe there's also a 94.5 between San Antonio and Corpus now, which could make it harder, if not impossible, to get KTBZ 94.5.

I have heard KEMA (94.5) only once or maybe twice. I'm not sure if they were just testing or if they haven't resumed any type of broadcasting. I tend to hear the 93.5 from George West with some consistency. When I'm in North San Antonio or Comal County, I still hear primarily "The Buzz" out of Houston. Q94.5 from the Valley also shows up from time to time. 94.9 "The Works" from Laredo still makes it through even with KGSX at 95.1. The dial has become much more crowded over the past few years, but many of the old stand-by's from Houston and Corpus find their way here.

I can remember back in the early 80's when the 101.1 frequency was licensed to Fredericksburg and signed off at 10 or 11 PM. KLOL from Houston came in with regularity right after Fredericksburg sign-off here in San Antonio.

Same here. Although, the format is all over the place.

92.3 The Ranch out of Kerrville(?)that comes in clear.

"KEMA was testing a signal once during the fall. I heard Country Music on 94.5 and couldn't figure out who it was. They identified themselves as KEMA. I haven't heard them since. They may have been doing a "test" to maintain their license."
