Normal Vs. Extreme Radio Fans(att.Pulse people)

Not a shocking result to the study even though it is interesting. What I'd be curious to see as a study is the impact that the vocal extreme have on a radio station or any business for that matter. I learned in sales a long time ago it's good practice not too have a disatisfied customer base. One person tells of their bad experience and before you know it,there are a mass of people with this bad image of your company. Same thing for radio,one listener points out that a station plays too much Hip Hop (as an example) and the other listener starts to pick up on this sentiment when they might not have been to aware of this etc. In this day and age where one can tweet to thousands and millions of people your disatisfaction it doesn't take too long before a brand can be damage or view unfavorably at the very least.

I did say we ALL fall into the category, I singled out Pulse because the Pulse mania round here in it's prime was 'medication and a padded cell' material,with non stop pronouncements that bordered on religious hallucinations,and, at the end of the day,have no real impact whatsoever..
but by all means, I participate and have great fun with it all,and indulge in my own religious snake handling swoons ,as we all know...
let the mania continue!

I hear ya :) And I did note the smilies here but being that you put out "Pulse people", I wanted the fans that follow their genre of music religiously to chime in their thoughts :)

what they should be doing is supporting the music by purchasing it and making it appear to be a viable entity;
a quick glance at itunes overall singles chart does not make an impressive case for dance singles;
for that matter, a quick glance at the 'free downloads' chart at big champagne shows an overwhelming load of hip hop and r&b tracks, and those charts carry great weight at radio,for tv appearances,and the labels decisions of which direction to go in;
dance fans should be supporting vic for at least providing a base from which they can build,instead of hacking away and winding up with nothing...again
unlike the democrats yanking and tearing at each other over health care, folks with a 'common cause' should be unified...but I've never seen that to be the case in dance,as you've heard me say for a decade or more...and nothing has changed..
now go request "Dance Floor"...(you're a good boy,Tony,fight the good fight!)

No shock on that survey...but why single out the Pulse people! ;D

CBS-FM fans fall there too :) (Okay, Andrea, this is where you come in!) :)

Don't forget the K-Rock fans... I still sometimes hear "BRING BACK K-ROCK!"
K-Rock died, I doubt its coming back. It was tried 2 times already.

I still want Hot 97 back! Even though I wasn't alive for much of Hot 97's glory days and too young to appreciate the station when it flipped to hip hop.

Maybe the reason there are so many dance fanatics here is because Radio-Info's early members were into dance music. At one point this site's owner programmed an online dance station.

Another reason we are "extreme" is because so many people make fun of the dance format and the fans that like it. Like this thread. There's no reason to single out the "Pulse People".

maybe when you realize that your desires are not exactly the desires of the masses(which is why I cited the sales and download chart results),you can all calm down and actually focus on spreading the music and the artists instead of stomping the feet and gritting the teeth on a daily basis, which accomplishes nothing and makes you sound like you're nuts...
that's why the 'pulse people' were singled out..
me, I AM nuts...but at least I KNOW it!

Again, I would like you to see the million cume and 1% share on a signal on 87.7. It's the worst signal in the city, and many radios don't even tune to it, and they didn't do outdoor promotions.

Then, when you go over to the Philadelphia board, there was a regular poster who wanted classic rocker 97.5 The Hawk to come back...

I agree with lalumia, it's weird that fans of such a niche genre have virtually taken over this board. I don't think a major signal will have a dance format, because I don't think most people want to listen to it unless they're, well, dancing!

Again, I refer you to the Arbitron ratings for WNYZ during the summer of 2008.

That's like telling hispanic people they must dance to the music on X or La Mega in order to enjoy it. Again, this is exactly what I keep mentioning on how the mainstream thinks of dance music. The stereotypes just never stop.

As someone who listened to the original Hot 97 when it was on the air,I can tell you that there were times when the station was heaVY on the r&b and pop sound. I remember hearing Surface,Ketih Sweat,Debbie Gibson,Fine Young Cannibals in power rotation. Sometimes they would only play 2 "dance" songs per hour. It just depended on the music product that was out there at the time.Not so much different from what is happening at Party right now when you think about it. Ironically,Hot 97 was playing the most amount of dance music right before they flipped to Hip Hop.

I remember the change at Hot 97, my record store(Jimi LaLumia's Record Connection in Ronkonkoma) was a reporter of sales to Hot;
they had recently added "I Should Be So Lucky" by Kylie Minogue and "Use It Up Wear It Out" by Pat & Mick,and then quickly backed off those records and moving into the hip hop ,r&b direction;
when I asked what happened to the Kylie, Pat & Mick,and a Jason Donovan record they were testing, I was told that the station was sounding' too gay".....
from that point on, there was a rapid retreat,and the rest is history,literally...
