Norman Lear 100th Birthday Special Set at ABC

The only thing ABC aired was those Live in Front of a Studio Audience. I can't remember if any of his shows ever aired on any other network besides CBS.

He did create/develop four series that did air on ABC, at one point in time or another. There were Hot l Batimore (1975), The Nancy Walker Show (1976), Apple Pie (1978), and a.k.a Pablo (1984)...as you can tell, all of those shows lasted for a season, with Hot l having the most episodes amongst those four shows--13 episodes. There was also the final season of Diff'rent Strokes that ABC aired, after NBC cancelled it in 1985.

His most successful shows were on CBS--All in the Family, Maude, Good Times, The Jeffersons, and One Day at a Time. His company also did produce Sanford & Son (and its spinoffs) and Diff'rent Strokes (and its spinoffs) for NBC, but he wasn't the primary showrunner on either series. If you look the catalog of shows that he either created himself or developed, unfortunately he had more flops than successes, but the successes stand out in having their place in TV history as some of the most groundbreaking sitcoms ever.

I hope this birthday TV special doesn't end up the way it did with Betty White, being this close to 100.

George Burns was supposed to do a stand up routine in Vegas on his 100th. But a nasty fall in his shower put him in a coma prior to that happening. He died shortly after turning 100.

Bob Hope was so far gone from dementia, he didn't remember his own name, or understand it was his 100th. He died just days after turning 100.
