North Charleston area pirate? WIWF reception

My wife and I are in the North Charleston area visiting from NY. We stumbled upon WIWF while driving through Florence on Wednesday and are very impressed with this radio station... surprising for me since I'm not a country guy.

Anyway, tuning to this frequency in our hotel (on the 9th/top floor) the first time got us a Top-40 station playing some J-Lo along with a station ID (didn't catch it). We were able to get WIWF in, though it was weak but listenable with some minor fading. Friday night and this morning WIWF came in crystal clear with no effort... tonight it is pretty much unlistenable... even with the radio sitting in the window which faces the direction of the tower. Reception in the car seems to be ok, though 'seek' doesn't always land on it.

Radio-info.com doesn't list any station on 96.9/96.7/97.1 that is within/near listening range that plays top-40. I find it hard to believe that this little power-cord-as-an-antenna radio has the capability to DX on a frequency in which a 99K watt local station exists.

Thoughts?

If the radio is analog it was probably Mix 97.7 in Myrtle Beach or 97.3 Kiss FM from Savanah,, both stations can easily be heard in Charleston especially on a 9th floor, TROPO DX is very common along the Carolina coast,, other wise it was harmonics if the radio was defective or had a bad tuner, or if you were close enough to the towers for B-92.5 or 95 SX sounds most likely to be front end overload,, a pirate wouldnt try to use a local frequency, especially not a 100 kw one.

Arrr! Pirate 100 was a classic rocker in Marrrtle Beach, mateys, but then it became Hot 100, arrin' the same thing as CHarrrR WJXY Hot 93! Then Hot 93 went sports and left Hot 100 on its own. Now they arrr Hip-Hop.

How well does WIWF come in in Myrtle Beach?
I've heard it. That's all I can say. They were on cable when they were Ecstasy and Myrtle Beach had no beautiful music station. Their tower was much shorter, though, and once we got FM in the car, I didn't think they came in all that clearly.

I can pick up most Charleston stations if I stay on the fourth or fifth floor.
