I spoke with Darien Southerland, the man behind the new Pulse 101.1 in Jasper, which is Fish but using country artists. That means faith-inspired songs by folks like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Brooks & Dunn and Carrie Underwood. Dan Ratcliffe, Kim Fitz and Kelly O'Brien, all Fish alum, were hired to be the on-air staff. WLJA-FM used to be Southern Gospel but the owner of Carriage Auto Group in Gainesville bought the station last fall from Tri-Cities Communications for $1.9 million.
