North Harris County Pirate Station

I was near I-45 and 1960 around noon Monday and caught a religious pirate on 91.1. Signal was strong along Red Oak between 1960 and Cypresswood. Spanish language preacher taking phone calls from listeners and praying with them, 281 phone number. Signal was in stereo. At first I thought it was a Part 15 from a nearby church, but the signal was listenable as far west as 1960 at Stuebner-Airline, about four miles away.

No slogan or other ID was given while I listened. The preacher referred to the 91.1 frequency several times, and also mentioned being available "on television", so don't know if he really meant the internet, or perhaps a TV pirate.

It is not a pirate, it is KNLY transmitting from New Waverly TX.

I have my doubts.

Signal was very strong along Red Oak, my car radio stopped on it during a scan. Signal faded and was completely gone four miles to the west as I drove away.

281 phone number would not be used in New Waverly, nor would a station that far away with their authorized power and signal contour target anyone covered by the 281 area code.

FCC online records still show the station in the construction permit phase.

The info in the URL's you gave don't match (addresses, ministry names.)

The TV side in the Radio VidaVision website is legit. The site does mention an FM for Houston, but doesn't give a frequency. I think someone is relaying the audio on a low power FM transmitter.

If anyone lives or is travelling through northern Montgomery/southern Walker counties, perhaps they can check 91.1 and see if the New Waverly station is actually on...?

100% your were listening to KNLY they run 11,500 watts with with a 330ft high antenna

KFTG Alvin they run 700 watts and 190ft high antenna and they can be heard 30 to 40 mile away

That's with a directional pattern which doesn't exactly favor the 1960 and I-45 area:

http://maps.google.com/?q=http://tr...91.1&contour=60&city=NEW_WAVERLY&state=TX.kml

Also the station filed for a modification at the end of August, calling for reducing the power to 2,000 watts with a non-directional antenna. That coverage map isn't available at this time on the FCC site, however.

Which would make me think that KNLY isn't on the air yet. Why launch and then have the expense of yet another new antenna?

We still need to confirm the on-air status of KNLY. Anyone in the area between Conroe and Huntsville?

Maybe they use a VOIP service provider, Area Codes seem irrelevant these days.

I reside in San Antonio and Austin and my cell phone number (used to be a SBC Landline) is 713-777 (in the Prescott Wire Center) I almost ported my previous number which was 281-804 (A Sprint PCS Exchange) to my former house in Sharpstown, in said Prescott Wire Center.
It turned out I didn't need the landline anymore, I had Roadrunner via Time Warner Cable and used Vonage instead to port my Inter-Lata Preferred Number (also known as Telebranch for Business service) 210-822 (Taylor Wire Center) that rang to the Prescott Wire Center number, alas every incoming call from 210-822 to 713-777 was long distance, thus saving more money! The downside to porting my 281 number to work in the 713 area was I couldn't have DSL service. This was when Number Portability became fully implemented in the Houston area and I was one of the first to do so!!!

As far as the website is concerned contact the Domain hosting company to report an invalid Who-is per ICANN regulations, it could as well not have been updated.

But I think DJAboutit3 is correct. I get the same info from the source which is the FCC.

I'm between Conroe and Huntsville. I'll have to check this out. Radio reception out here is poor, but I should be able to pick up something in New Waverly, especially with my car radio.

I listened to 91.1 FM today, and heard Spanish-language contemporary Christian music. There was occasionally a man speaking, but his speech was too fast for me to catch much. At one point, it sounded like he said the station was also available on TV. The signal quality was very good in Conroe. I'll try it further north soon.

Was driving along I-45 in Walker County this past weekend, and it appears KLNY 91.1 is indeed on the air. Running Spanish language Christian music when I checked. Didn't listen long enough to hear any ID for RadioVidaVision.

Guess I got fooled, if this is indeed what I originally heard. I must have been in a sweet spot for the station, some 40 miles away. It did seem to have a pirate-ish signal, strong in one location but fading out around four miles away. Sure sounded like a pirate, with a preacher using a speaker phone for calls, and no ID's. You usually don't expect a TV simulcast on FM.

Fairly close first adjacent to KTSU, although KQLC 90.7 in Sealy is about the same distance. FM band is really getting crowded.

Really, La Raza did that on KZJL-TV 67 back in 2001, they had La Raza TV. I remember watching that in a Washateria on Beechnut.

An application from KNLY was mentioned earlier in this thread. It specified a reduction in power from about 12kW to 2kW and going non-directional, but the FCC dismissed the app, noting that the signal wouldn't cover their COL (New Waverly). So unless they can come up with a new antenna site, a revised directional pattern coupled with a power reduction (or a combination of those things), it's a dead issue for now.
