North Jersey Pirate forced to break out the checkbook!

I was scanning the dial last night (Essex County) and there is still a very strong pirate on 99.9, identifying themelves as "New Jersey's #1 Radio Station".

That's roadblock radio coming out of the Montclair/Bloomfield area.

Pretty bold for a pirate to claim they're #1.

If he's busted for running that pirate, would he even be eligible to own one of the NJN or Atlantic stations if he so chose to?

Apparently yes. It is only LPFM's that have the "no pirate" restriction.

I like how they "cherry pick" the pirates they shut off.

Out of all the pirates on the air I wonder how many of them the FCC is actually able to identify the exact location of the source (transmitter)?

I don't know if a ham radio operator can locate them an FCC Engineer should be able too. Better equipment and hopefully more training. With the right equipment it isn't rocket science.

I keep thinking that 102.9 Choice FM the Caribbean pirate station is still on the air.

Don't know about CHoice with their alleged 5KW signal, but 103.1, 87.7, and 106.1 are still going strong.

I never heard of pirates in the AM band, unless you count Part 15s that are just barely over the limit. There are pirates on shortwave, but it's hard to track them down since they cover the whole country and are on sporadically.

He's an idiot if they came on April 3 and told him to shut it off, yet he turned it back on and they came again on April 7.

If anyone listened to Shortwave anymore that might be fun to try. You would have to change frequencies or just broadcast when that part of SW you were on was hot.

Does Newark have any pirates or are they all from Paterson with high power to Newark?

That guy is still on ! Same frequency.

If you are a pirate and the FCC sends you a notice to shut down then shut down and move to another location. The FCC has to start all over again from the new site. Put your equipment on wheels or have an laternative site ready to go the next day.

Unless you are interfering with another station they really don't care.

I live about 8 miles west of Newark and I get very strong pirates on 96.7, 97.5, 99.9, and 103.9. I get weaker pirates on 106.5 and 107.9. The one on 107.9 just popped up in the last 2 weeks. I assume at least some of these must be out of Newark.

Lot's of Spanish Pirates on the 94's tonight up here in NE Bergen County.......The ones on 94.9 & 94.5 are very strong and two weaker ones on 94.1 & 94.3......94.5 & 94.9 are great spots since 94.7 WFME doesn't broadcast in HD.

If they wanted to find all the pirates all at once Roadblock radio 99.9,etc,send an agent off the Garden State Parkway exit 145 and drive around East Orange, you'll find em all!I think they are scared to look there.
