MANSFIELD...WELCOME ALL THE HITS, Y105

Interestingly, we at Northcoast Radio predicted this change over a month ago. Before anyone else I must add! It has come true! Y105 is All The Hits. Why you might ask? Clear Channel is moving WMRN from Marion to Dublin creating the need to sell off another Columbus Rimshot, so they decided to dump WQIO. Plus, WQIO wasn't doing too hot in the ratings, so why not drop it while it's hot. After Clear Channel lost it's Mount Vernon building to the satellite hungry B.A.S. they decided to move 98.3 and 107.7 to Ashland.

After their move up route 13 and over on 42, WWBK and WBZW decided to take on a new name and mascot. Joining sister WFXN the three are now called "THE FOX ROCK NETWORK, THREE TIMES THE TOWERS WITH THREE TIMES THE POWER." Jeff Schendel is the big daddy of the new threesome (no, they don't sell that DVD in the Adult Video Stores). His new 12,000 watt baby fox comes complete with a new logo, web-site and full staff. The station did very well in the ratings before with an average place of #5- #7 overall 12+. Maybe adding these simulcasters will only make it better?

As for the loss of KISS? Check this out, WYHT Mansfield, Your Hits, Your Station...Y105
All The Hits, Y105 is Eric Hanson's newest creation after coming to Mansfield during the Clear Channel format swithceroo! His 50,000 watt female magnet will adjust from the 25-54's to the 18-49's that CHR's desire. A new voice, new imaging, new jocks....whew! Look for Y105 to become a copy cat or close to a copy cat of WNCI. Danny Wright (APD/MD WNCI) is now forging the voice for WYHT and Nathan Tyler (overnights at WNCI) along with Marty Scott (weekends for WNCI) join the line-up. Rumor has it Chris Shaheen stays and Drew Hanson (WNCI weekends) joins for overnights????? Look for the Morning Rush to add an extra warm body (as heard in the halls of Clear Channel Mansfield), but who this is we will not know.

I am trying to keep the blog up to date, but it has been crazy with my full time gig at a station on the Northcoast. I updated it tonight, but this is the first time in a while. Blame it on the rain as Milli Vanilli would say, LOL!

I guess, as the semi-retired Ron Popeil would say, "But wait! There's more!"

WMVO/1300 is also in the BAS deal. From what's on their *current* CC website, (www.wmvo.com) they carry ABC's Starlight format, in addition to a bevy of local programming from 6am to 3pm. Plus they have OSU, the Indians and Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets. Very nice pickup.

BAS will be conducting extensive research for the region over the next few weeks, and is set to take over in October. That is going to be a good two-station cluster.

IMHO, Elyria-Lorain may have blown it by unloading 98.7/Crestline so soon.

---Nice tease. So spill the beans...what "possible fun" and what other cluster are you hinting at? More acquisitions in the offing?

BAS owns both SAC "Eagle 99" WFRO/99.1 and classic rock "92.1 The Wolf" WOHF/92.1 in Fremont. (They bought WFRO-FM two years ago when the AM side - the late AM/900 - went to ABC, so as to be silenced for the WFDF/910- Flint 50KW upgrade.)

Currently, WFRO and WOHF run ABC sattelite channels respective to both formats all the time. "Kennedy" mentioned on the Columbus board that plans within BAS are to have both stations go with a majority of local programming within a year or two.

James Lorenzen is president of the company. That's all I know. There's no website that I've seen of either station or of BAS so far. Hopefully, they get the existing station websites from CC in the deal.

Prophet should stay at WQIO/WMVO - CC gave up everything related to both stations. I can't imagine them junking it for anything else right now - it could come in handy if (or when) either station changes format.
