NORTHERN COLO RADIO 80s & 90s

Would like to reconnect with some of the GREAT people from Northern Colorado radio in the 80s & 90s.
Bob Sorrentino here. Started with KUAD in 1980 after a few years in New Jersey and Philly radio before relocating to Colorado. This was just before they went CHR. Hired by PD John Brown and worked to "De-Disco" the format
alongside Greg Bennett, Boz Collins,Ron Rodriguez,Darrin Carlson, Rick Shields,Michelle Starr,Marti Scott,
and LOTS of other talented folks both part time and full time. ALL under the fabulous and talented ownership
of warm and fuzzy Phil Brewer.(air traffic from my private plane over I-25 anyone?) KUAD 99 had Northern Colorado's very FIRST oldies show(2 weeks under John Brown) and then I continued it from Spring 1980 through Dec '81.
In '83, my own travels took me to KGBS and some work with Wayne Mancuso(ex-KUAD),Marc Skier,Greg Crawford. Great 80s music with MJ,Duran Duran,REO Speedwagon,Naked Eyes,Police. And balloon pants too! Anyone
remember the DJ there from Estes Park who passed away? I remember Candace McCain who does voice work for King Soopers/City Market now?. Joined KLOV for a short time in 82. (Remember Lindsay English?)Back to KUAD to reinvent their oldies show from 83-84'. Tried very hard to explain to Brewer that 27 1/2 minutes of commercials PER HR was a bit excessive.(No kidding here! It happened!) Took the oldies audience to KLOV/Tri 102 and remained there working alongside Louie Finch, Boz Collins & some other great people. Left in Feb'87 before its demise. Did you work in Greeley,Ft. Collins or Loveland stations? Hey..post something! Bob

Lets see...I worked with Quinn Morrison at KUAD in the mid 80's doing some contract work. I also did Air work with Hollywoood Henderson and Don Dana, Tony, The Mayor and others in 86-88 at Surreys KYOU. . Also did some work for KGRE...all under a different air name (witheld to protect the innocent) and a bunch of VO work in the area...

Hey, where is John Brown?? He was the Station Mgr. at the old 93 Rock KOLL-FM Gillette, WY in late '79. He hired me to do overnights rockin' the jackalopes.

I worked for Joe Tennison at KFKZ (96.1)/KFKA in 78-79, and for Phil from 79-80 ... and then again in 87, right before he sold .. then I moved back to 96.1 when it became KSQI and stayed til it was sold in 91 ... also worked for KCSU, KIMN, KGLL, and KPAW .. do a syndicated public radio program now, based out of FC.

Hey Bob Sorrentino! It's Darrin Carlson. Remember me? So great to read your post here. I'm still in Hawaii. Enjoying a nice life with two almost grown kids and a very tolerant radio wife. Those were some great times. I have fond memories of working for you doing mobile dances. You had THE best oldies show back then. Funny, I'm now playing 'classic hits" and most are those songs I played back in the day at KUAD.

I still stay in touch with some of the old gang: I talk to Jerry Fahrenbruch on an almost weekly basis. He did sales at KUAD, living now in Phoenix. Greg Bennett has his own Sales and Marketing company and doing quite well in Denver. Phil is retired and lives in Tucson. Haven't talked to him in awhile but he and his wife Ronda have a successful antiques business. Dave Fransen is in Fort Smith, Arkansas working at a station, head of sales and doing some on-air. Most are scattered to the winds, but still manage to stay in touch with most of them through Facebook and social networks.

Hope all is well with you! Again, great to read your post. I joined radio-info just so I could respond to your post.

Take care!

Darrin Carlson
Hilo, Hawaii
