Northwest Florida My Network / CW news

Hello:

Not sure if anyone is from the Pensacola / Mobile area, but I have some news regarding the CW and Fox's My Network.

We don't have an official answer about the CW, but all indications are that WBPG channel 55 (the current WB affiliate) will become the CW, and WJTC (UPN 44) will revert back to independent. That's all just speculation at this point, but several sources say that is what they believe will happen.

It is confirmed that Sinclair's WFGX channel 35 (currently independent and formerly WB) will become the new My Network affiliate.

WFGX is really a joke. Giving them the My Network affiliation essentially means that the Mobile TV market (#62?) doesn't have a My Network affiliate. WFGX's over-the-air signal only reaches about 10% of the market and their cable coverage only extends that to about 30%. WFGX is not carried on any cable systems in Alabama or north of Pensacola. On top of that Cox cable in Pensacola picks up channel 35 off an antenna and it frequently has an unwatchable signal. I don't think WFGX is carried by Dish or DirecTV either. I wonder if WFGX's sister station WEAR will carry the My Network programing in the late night hours to make it available to Mobile viewers.

For now.

Realize the analog shutoff is less than three years away. By then, WFGX-DT will likely be broadcasting at full power, on channel 50, from the WEAR-TV/DT tower. That'll give them full-market coverage, just like any other station.
