As alluxed to earlier, I just completed a 500+ mile drive through the northwoods of Ontario, well north of Lake Superior where there was nothing that tripped the scan buttn during daytime. As I said earlier, nighttime was a different story. The band lit up.
Here are just a few highlights from the nights I spent inThunder Bay, Kapuskasing, and Orillia respectively....
First of all, let me state the obvious. The 50kw non-directional behemoths from the Midwest were all present with good signals at all three locations. WHAS and KMOX struck me as being particularly good. WGN. CFZM, WCCO, and WLS not far behind.
Thunder Bay:
770: WABC with a fair signal. Strongest NYC signal
820: Expected WBAP. Instead CHAM was alone
870: WWL. weak, but there it was.
1000: WMVP with a surprisingly good signal.
1030: WBZ weak
1110: KFAB good
1250: CHSM atrongest Winnipeg area
1300: WOOD confortably on top
1390: WGRB. I can't hear it very well at night from their stick on the south side of Chicago. But here it was on top.
Kapuskasing:
620: WTMJ sounding like a local
640: WMFN adds to the Chicago area DX
650: WSM good. Not a total surprise given that my aunt in nearby Cochrane was a regula Grand old opry listener.
950: CFAM: Mixing with WWJ
1060: KYW Fair
1170: WWVA: fair
1310: WIBA good
1330: KPTY on top
Orillia:
Big Toronto signals mostly via groundwave with cancellation. CJCL (590) and CFZM (740) strongest. CFRB (1010) weakest. CFTR (680) also strong but, with something I couldn't ID underneath. CHUM (1050) fair but alone.
750: WSB fair-good
850: WKNR fair-good
1030: WBZ good
1080: WTIC fair
1090: WBAL fair
1110: WBT good
1280: CFMB good
1300: WOOD good
1540: KXEL fair, but on top of CHIN
This is just some of what I heard. I didn't have time to ID all the strong signals on "regional" channels. Let me know if you have specific questions about stations or channels
