Not Cool

So morning man Larry and newsman Bill vanish one day from the airwaves......

They are replaced by some guy and his dog....they vanish

Now the weekend guy is hosting mornings???

What has Cool 102 done?

Where are Larry and Bill now?

Budget cuts are understandable at times, but that morning show seemed lean.

Re: Not Cool 101.9

Didn't newsman Bill leave? Then return to Cool 101.9? Only to leave again?? Getting rid of "Cool-102" to become
"Cool- 101.9" could cause confusion with the average listener.

That Cool 101.9 seemed like an arbitrary decision to change something to me.I like the station but they have never been known for high profile personalities so I can't imagine why all the exits and changes unless there's internal turmoil.

It has gotten to the point where I only listen to Cool 102.....errr...101.9
for Ron Dwyer on Sat. Nights....that man has talent!
On the Cool 102 change to Cool 101.9 hello! it doesnt roll off the tongue, it has been Cool 102 for how long???? 15 yrs? maybe more? just ain't riggghhhhtttt!!!!! Do they think you can't find it on the dial? I know when I hear it as 101.9 I feel kinda violated....like I lost a friend.....lol..

Doesn't anyone remember the "New Coke" disaster?

I agree. Cool 102 flowed nice. If they wanted to change to 101.9 then they should have also dropped the word "COOL" and replaced it with something that Rhymes. Here are some suggestions

101.9 THE SHINE
SHINE 101.9

Ya, like tune out the whine......turn to 101.9 or break out the wine and listen to 101.9..........lol

You would think Cape Cod could be the kind of market someone could work in to avoid all the BS & just stay at a station for a while simply because you want to. I still like the station & can't figure out if they've made any major music changes, but some of the deeper cuts seem to have disappeared or put into a lower rotation. Unless I'm dreaming, I swear I heard Stairway To Heaven within the last week or so which I don't think they've played in the past. This should be a comfortable station to listen to so hopefully the staffing changes will stop & they don't over-react to Frank. Bring back Larry Egan & Bill Lowell.

When I was looking for a change of scenery in early 2000, one of the stations that offered me a job was Cool 102. Based upon the music and, to a lesser extent, my New England background, I accepted the job despite the fact that I had higher-paying offers from stations in bigger markets.

I admit that I haven't heard the station in more than 3 years, but when I was there - I loved the selection. The artist rotation was no less than 2:10 and title rotation was no less than 2 days & 1 daypart. I miss programming like that. Larry was a great PD to work for and I had a blast working with Steve McVie. Steve & I have known each other since the early 80's and, despite the grumblings of some here, he is a real good guy to work for/with.

Unfortunatly, that is probably all irrelevant now, as everything, i think , now goes thru the dreaded consultant, thus the genius 101.9 move

Could it be that B101 is playing almost the same music as COOL now?

No B101 has more of a tendency to drive all over the road at times. Cool102 sticks to stuff with a rock base. Maybe B101's core library is similar but they go off at times and play top 40 classics/oldies. B101 isn't a force down the cape anyway.

Funny, i consider Cool to be swerving.....

Steve Miller......Cool
Elton John.......Cool
Doors.............Cool
Tracy Chapman.....VERY NOT COOL
Natalie Merchant....VERY NOT COOL

They have always played that mellower, more acoustic music. What stations are they afraid of.Mostly everyone who beats them is some form of AC and CHR other than Frank.I haven't heard Frank but they're adult hits meaning all-over-the-road.If a station that plays it all is beating you then you don't compete by tightening the playlist.

It's been a while since I've listened to Cool, but they used to be a cross between WMVY and Radio Margaritaville (lots of Buffett). In fact, that worked! Cape Cod is the type of market and area where that format fit. It didn't have to be jammed in sideways. Cape Cod is a laid back, mellow area of the state and a Radio Margaritaville type format crossing with a WMVY format, and throw in a dash of soft classic rock and I think you're on to something. But that's just me....

You're right on point. That's what attracted me to the station back in the spring of 2000 when I was job-hunting. For those over-programming types, the station did extremely well playing some songs that were considered "way out of the box" like Elton John's "Grey Seal", Steely Dan's "The Fez" and Elvis Costello's "(Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes". These are just a few examples of the deeper tracks that made Cool 102 stand out and successful. Would the format work in other places? No way - believe me...I have a couple of horror stories about the Cool 102 music formula in other markets. That formula was a brilliant plan for the Cape which eventually morphed into the cookie-cutter "classic hits" format that's as bland as cardboard.
