Not impressed with B94

I know it's early in the game but I am not impressed with what I'm hearing from B94. After the initial excitement died down, they are sounding to me like a station who stole the playlist from KISS. I was expecting much more. I will admit I am not listening to the B 24 hours a day, but it seems that everytime I tune in I am hearing a song that KISS plays as well. Am I missing something? Please correct me if I am wrong. The way to beat your opponent is to sound different, not the same. One other question: Is the B as repetitive as Kiss? If so, we have a problem. In the promo which starts each hour, they mention some diversified artists; Michael, Green Day and even Hootie. Are they playing any of this music? I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because they are new, but so far they sound like every other corporate, cookie cutter radio station in Pittsburgh.

My guess is that with the B just coming back this weekend, they have a limited top 40 playlist that are using that will definitely grow. In the promo's they said we are not even half way done with B 94. I think they are just getting their feet wet and will fill many of the pieces within the next few weeks.

I'm actually feeling the exact opposite. The B has been impressive to me so far. I've heard new Finger Eleven, Matchbox Twenty, Colbie Calliat, etc. They are playing a good bit of stuff that KISS hasn't played. And I do agree...they probably have a big rotating list for just the weekend. Once they get jocks, etc. it will probably continue to improve.

I would guess that the playlist will continue to grow in the coming weeks. Too early to make any judgements

B94's music is nothing like the music on Kiss. Sure both are Top 40 but B94 is playing the "Top 40 Music That is NOT rap" like Death Cab for Cutie, Ashley Simpson, Dashboard Confessional, Matchbox 20 while Kiss FM is playing 50 Cent, Kayne West, and all rap stuff..B94 never really got into that back in thew day either. Interesting though and this might be metnioned on another post, but "Texting Tina" sounds like "Gab" form the old McIntyre Show, maybe she is still on board.... I heard a live remote they did on sunday too but i forgot the Dj's name..he didnt sound familiar....

The guy Sunday at buckheads was The Ron-Man....he was a weekend DJ on the old B-94, Kraven on K-Rock, and has made some appearances on STAR since

That was the Ron-Man, a weekend / part-time guy that they've had for years...

To me they don't sound anything like Kiss 96.1 at all. They sound actually pretty Hot AC leaning. If you're talking about the overplayment of some songs and the lack of golds, this is likely due to the fact that they launced two days ago.

B-94 does play some Rap. Kanye West, 50 Cent, and the latest from Mims have all been in rotation. They just space out the Rap hits moreso then Kiss FM. Meaning B-94 doesn't lean Hip Hop as much, but still acknowledges its popularity.
Anyone expecting to hear 80s Michael Jackson or 90s Hottie & The Blowfish obviously isn't going to be impressed. Those artists are mentioned at the top of the hour during the montage of what B used to sound like and play.

Anyone that can't hear the difference the flow of music between B-94 and Kiss FM simply needs to listen to B for an hour, and then listen to Kiss FM for an hour. The difference is pretty appearant, and I think BOTH stations sound pretty good.

Basically B94 is MTV Pittsburgh. What a Top 40 should be... click on MTV Hits on cable... the songs match up...

Kiss is in a tight spot now. Perceptionally as Hip Hop cools off in the region.. it might not get as much support as the new rock sounds of maroon five , finger 11, and daughtry.

never heard paralyze or great escape before this weekend in pittsburgh... these are big top 40 songs... now on the air here in Pittsburgh.

I was promoting my welcome back to pittsburgh b94 party this friday oct 12 on the southside..and the reaction to b coming back dwarfs any hate. Its unstoppable. This station may start 2008 with a 4.0. The same way 1047 the beat did back in the fall of 1999 after its first book of the Dr Michael Lynn Show (I was Jimmy Jamm - a character like Bubba on B94's JohnDaveBubbaShelly show) and the love for that station is like this station. B94 could even throw in a few country songs because the brand was missed like Bob Oconner and Roberto Clemente... if those two came back you might see the same love. I know I would show my late mother nothing but respect if she came back.

This new emotional wave will pay off in the ratings, its like B94 has a new lease on life...the life the brand invested in for the past 20 years... dam near every last veteran of B94 is hosting a high profile show around the country now... Kobe PD pm drive at wild in wpb ( I was on x1023 last year this time down there), Adam Bomb nights at y100 miami and now q100 atl, giant brian is in the same city at project 961 after a philly stint...ron man and dave cook in the company at star and y108...even i am a veteran of b94 waaay back in 1998.

B will force a change, and come out on top.

Okay- wait a minute.

You're comparing B-94 to Bob O'Connor and Roberto Clemente?

You're putting Bob O'Connor in the same sentence with Clemente?

A lot of people think pop music fans, well, let's just say it's not the soundtrack of Mensa.

Putting Clemente in the same sentence with O'Connor, and not spelling the late mayor's name right to boot, doesn't really do much to overcome that stereotype.

That said, it sounds like you had a great party! Congrats!

B94 will play some old songs, but don't expect any Hootie or Madonna. They'll mainly play things from the late 90s like "Killing Me Softy" by the Fugees. From the 00s, B94 will play older songs by rock artists like Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Blink 182, Lifehouse, etc. Almost all of the old songs played on Kiss are Urban.

I love what I'm hearing so far. The retrospective played at the top of every hour this weekend gave me the chills. It's so great to have B94 back!

Has Mikey & Big Bob mentioned B94 on their morning show today?

I didn't get a chance to listen to Kiss this morning. Does anybody know who the music director will be on B 94?

B94 to me, sounds a lot like Z93 in Dayton. Definitely more rock leaning than its Clear Channel competition WDKF, Channel 94-5. I really like the sound a lot!

With Z-93 Dayton's ratings where they are it's better to try and compare the new B-94 to the following stations: 104 KRBE Houston, 107.5 The River Nashville, 97.9 NCI Columbus, or Q-100 Atlanta.

Hmmm true. I was going based on sound and nothing else. I can see where WNCI would be accurate.

Wow B94 is a disaster. It's basically taking Star 100.7 changing its name to B94 and just taking the 80's music out. With B94's current playlist, I don't think they are going to be anywhere near Kiss in the ratings. I for one LOVED B94 before it left the air and preferred it over Kiss. Now, I can't even listen to the station for 5 minutes the songs are so old and lame. Bring back artists they used to play like Blink 182, Outkast, and Good Charlotte or other artists with fast beats that I can actually not get depressed too such as Maroon 5 and other whiney songs that they have been playing.

I think this playlist will get much bigger when B 94 hires an airstaff, PD and music director. You are right, there's no way they will beat Kiss if they keep this tight playlist forever.
They do say in the B 94 sweepers, we are not even half done yet.
