Not really local but yet of interest - - WLS

I know that WLS is not in the market, but a lot of us listened to the "BIG 89" back in the day. That was one of the few stations I could hear deep in the mountains of Avery County at night, along with WOWO and WNOX.

I thought folks might want to know that they are going to go back to thier roots for one day, all day long on memorial day, from 5 am until midnight. A lot of the old jocks will be on the air, Larry Lujack "Superjock", John "spin your records" Landecker, Fred Winston, ans a couple of others that I don't remember.

That should be a great listen, and Hopefully they will stream on the net since reception during the day is not likely. They do stream regular programming so hopefully they will this as well, and I hope the RIAA will stay out of it!.

By the way, 77 WABC will do the same this weekend. Actually ABC started it last year. Cousin Bruce Morrow, Dan Ingram, Harry Harrison, Bob Lewis and other for WABC stars will appear.
 
Mike, actually WABC has done this for several years. The difference, as I understand it, is that WABC features airchecks of their jocks from the past
while WLS is actually featuring their talent in real time...Larry Lujack via ISDN from New Mexico, John "Records" Landecker, Fred Winston, Tom Kent and
Chis Shebel and maybe others. (I don't remember Chris Shebel or Tom Kent, must have been in the later "music radio" years!)

Among the missing...Ron Riley, Dick Biondi, Art Roberts (deceased), Kris Eric Stevens, Chuck Buell and many more.
 
Ton Kent was at WLS from 1979 to (I think 1981) and Chris Shebel was there in 82-83 time period. Both have airchecks of their WLS shows at Reelradio.com.

Ron Riley is on the air as a weathercaster in Washington DC. Last year, he helped Terry Young recreate WLS as part of XM Radio's weekly station salute on Friday afternoons.

I would love to hear Ron Riley and Clark Weber recreate thier feuds from the '60s. They were so funny, and these guys were great friends off the air.
 
Unless you wait till skywave kicks in WLS does stream on the web so you can listen via the net... Monday will be a day when Sirius gets a day off so I can check out WLS... CC1
 
Is Chris Shebel at 93.9 in Raleigh now, because I used to listen to WLS in 82-84 when they were still musical, and I was thinking that that guy on 93.9 sounded familiar but I wasn't sure why?

I remember some very rare days while I was in high school that the skywave stayed in all day long. That was a bery rare treat, to be able to listen to WLS in the middle of the day.
 
That is the same Chris Shebel who works at 93.9... Chris was also the mastermind behind one of the most talked about stations on RI chicago board and that was ENERGY 927-5... Although that station has been gone now for over four years it still gets discussions from time to time... CC1
