NOT SO FAST

Is it wishful thinking on some people's minds that Q-105 is flipping formats? To what? Hispanic Reggae Polkas?

Here are a few facts. The station makes it's budgets. It gets results for advertisers. It is a top 5 player non-ethnic. And perhaps most notably, it holds a market exclusive position. The qualitative on this station is outstanding. Why would Clear Channel give that up?

All very good points, with one notable exception. You are surmising that CC makes logical, reasonable, intelligent decisions.

Just listened to the "HeyEverybodyJustGotIntoTown" morning guy on your great "Top 5 player non-ethnic" station.(Having a math problem, can't seem to find Q-105 in the top five anywhere, even after you take out the ethnic stations you don't want to count.) Your great morning guy just said " the only rats we have around here are in government". I've passed that opinion to friends at Haley Barbour's office. Had trouble getting the cheap pass at humor, in light of the tragedy we've suffered in the storm.Has your morning guy registered to vote yet, by the way? I believe the folks at MEMA might have a question for Randy Bell at the next press conference. Congratulations on your quality station.

Of course he is. I mean, when you're the OM of CC-Jackson, you kind of have to follow the company creed.

Now let's not bash Clear Channel and Q-105. Don't you know that they easily make revenue budget? And they do it on a shoestring, without investing heavily in talent. So it's a win-win for the audience and shareholders. Yep-it's all they can do to count the money and who cares about ratings anyway? Did ratings ever call you up and place a buy? There is far too much emphasis placed on performance on this board. Give the folks a break- it's not like they're a bunch of sloppy drunks. They are professionals. The boss demands the maximum bang for his buck, and that goes double for the sales staff. Who knows-with all the urban listeners who may be moving to Jackson Clear Channel may solidify their position in the market even more.

I agree - there's no need to go Clear Channel bashing again. The bottom line is this... does the station make money? If so, who cares who listens to it as long as the dough keeps coming in. Secondly, if CC were to change formats at Q-105, what would they change too? Some variation of urban would be my first guess since they don't have an urban in Jackson, but would that really be wise? Of course, I realize we're talking about CC so logic doesn't always make sense. So, if not urban, what else?
______________

Hey now! I meant every word of that! Goober is right about the CC logic thing. For some reason continuity seems to be a higher priority at CC Jackson. Now that I understand that, I can see how something can be illogical yet still make sense- in their paradigm. But it still makes my head hurt.

Yeah - I had forgotten about WHLH being Urban Gospel... Question still remains though what could they switch Q105 to that would/could work?
______________
