Not Surprised On Entercom's Move Of KDFC-102.1

Personally, I am not surprised that KDFC will be no more on 102.1. I am happy at the way it turned out with the way Entercom handled it. They could have easily acquired an AM station and moved KDFC there (like Entercom did with their Kansas City Classical station) or just dropped KDFC altogether and put a new format on 102.1. At least those "Q-102" rumors will disappear. LOL! :D

So where is their South Bay (San Jose) signal. KUSF doesn't reach that far south. They NEED a South Bay singagal if they really want to say that they are even close to covereing KDFC's service area.

You knew it would be a matter of time that they would do this, surprised Entercom had not done this earlier.

Yeah, I agree. They have owned KDFC since 2007 and I actually thought it would have happened around then. It just took the purchase of KUFX-98.5 to make this change happen.

Too bad there wasn't a way to allow the new KDFC to simulcast on 102.1-2, to help alleviate some coverage concerns with the move.

I listen to what little HD is available out here. In Los Angeles, it's a veritable smorgasbord compared to the Bay Area.

I really think that KDFC's future was doomed once the sale to Entercom was done in 2007. Instead of dumping the KDFC calls & format, They apparently took their time to come up with the right scenario. They took their time (almost 4 years), to come up with the right way to keep the KDFC calls & Classical Format in San Francisco while coming up with a more financially viable format for 102.1. However I will still miss KDFC. I can pick up KDFC very clear in Stockton.

Agreed. A classical format, even commercial, can only exist for so long on a valuable dial position like 102.1. Even better if 90.3 can increase to B1 in the future.

RIP Commercial sponsored Classical music on Radio. Thank God it lives on Online and on 90.3
Though not alot, I know of a couple in California that are Commercial Sponsored like KBOQ-103.9 in Monterey-Santa Cruz and KDB-93.7 in Santa Barbara. Probably more in other states but it is pretty much close to dead now.
