Not that anyone cares...

Nothing against John Meaney...he does do a great job. My problem with that comment is that a great job should put that station in the top 12 stations in the market...not the bottom three. A statement like that just shows the thought process in this market. Who does john Meaney answer to? So many stations in this market can be so much more!

"Great answer...lots of thought"......Are you kidding me??? A 6kw station programmed very generically for Saratoga with a transmitter in Schuylerville, trying to be a mini-B-95/Buzz-105.7 is really going to make the Top 12.....???? You think you know radio???

The format has worked splendidly on that signal for years. The station appears to have a good commercial load and serves the community and audience it seeks to serve. Frankly, it is the station that WCKM should look to for guidance.

Splendidly!!! This station has never been more than a 1.0 share. I'm not sure where you work... but try telling the man who is putting up the money that...Mr. Bossman I know it doesn't look like we have listeners but the station "has worked splendidly on that signal for years". Let me know how it goes. A good commercial load means nothing...buy one, get one will fill em up quickly. My point over and over again is that RADIO in the Albany and surrounding markets has become lazy. Just because WQAR has done a great job serving the Saratoga market doesn't mean that all work is done. What happened to a little challenge in life? If you acheive one goal...reach for another. The station CAN be something in this market...a little effort and self challenge goes a long way. Last but not least PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! don't tell us that "A 6W station programmed very generically for Saratoga...LA LA LA" can't be something. When you wake up and want to learn a little something tune it to 100.9 FM. It's a little station called MAGIC... some dedication and a 6W station can be in the top 5 on a consistant basis.

The truth about MAGIC is... there is NO MAGIC!
At one point when Magic was riding high in the Top 5, Pamal was having fits because 100.9 was pulling the $$$$ Rug out from under FLY92 and B95. They've never been able to sell advertisers and make them feel comfy & confident with MAGIC. You should have seen the clueless sales force the first year and a half! They had NO idea, and the big man was tearing his hair out because it was obvious the highly popular MAGIC was a HEX on the other stations in the cluster!

It's all about MONEY - something similar happened when JAMZ was threatening FLY92. There was just one solution. Toss out the PD (Sugar Bear) on his ear and get the station recognized by the trades as CHR. Funny how they still call it "hip hop," but now they are HAPPY with the lower ratings for the less advertiser-friendly screwy-signalled JAMZ, which means higher ratings and more $$$$ via FLY92, which is micro-managed to make sure it has no overlaps with B95.

Conclusion: it is not that local radio is LAZY. It is that CLUSTERS must be CAREFUL and protect revenue at all costs. (Even if it means throwing good people under the bus!)

---A good commercial load means nothing.

Son, this says all we really need to know about your radio knowledge.

First of all...this is a board to voice opinions...second of all... try to voice knowledge without being disrespectful. These comments show how much you know SON! When I said a good commercial load means nothing...this is what I was saying. I forgot to put it in easy terms that someone like you would understand. In a stop set you could have...client commercials like you were talking about... but you also may have promos for upcoming station promotions and events, many stations have to air spots from partners like Jones radio network...my point being that you can fill a stop set with many different spots. TWO FOR ONE fire sales will also make a 'GOOD COMMERCIAL LOAD". It's seems that you have a personal connection with WQAR. I'm sure that Mr. Anastos never intended on being sub par. I would love for TEN FORTY to tell us all how WQAR is a money making quality product in the Capital Region.
