Here we are in the aftermath of Matthew and I suppose many at the self proclaimed "news leader" are patting themselves on the back about how "great" of a job they did! Make no mistake, they did a great job and even listeners called in to say so! In their very obvious attempt to sensationalize and exaggerate the Matthew story, it was as apparent as tomorrow's sunrise what they were doing and hats off to those who caught it! Examples? OK, let's look at some:
1. Morning kid who replaced the much more experienced and much better sounding Jim Turner, when the NHC established Matthew's track would parallel the state of Florida stated Matthew was going to be a "direct hit"! Any grade school kid will tell you the difference! Oh, but "direct hit" was much more sensational, wasn't it self appointed "News Leader"? The NHC showed the track and their discussion of said track was OBVIOUS!!!
2. Another guy stated exactly the following: "Power will be out in ALL of Central Florida!" Really? Central Florida extends East and West. You're saying your crystal ball shows it will be dark from the East coast all the way to Tampa? Sensationalism and exaggeration as plain as day!
3. Still another guy made reference to the "I-4" corridor". Where does I-4 run? From I-95 on the east coast, to I-275 on the west coast. That's the "I-4 Corridor"! As this guy was doing his best to make Matthew sound like the "storm of the century", he said "Winds all along the I-4 corridor will be at 100 MPH!". A listener called in from Lakeland to ask what the winds would be like there and questioned this VERY OBVIOUS bush league exaggeration!
4. As part of the sensationalism playbook, some guy said "Matthew will be the biggest storm to EVER hit Florida!" Guess what "News Leader", ever hear of Hurricane Andrew?????" Ever hear of the Saffir-Simpson Scale? Did they ever teach that to you in so-called "broadcasting college"??? Another PRIME example of sensationalism all the way!
It is OBVIOUS what has happened to WDBO. Stupid management got rid of quality, experienced and professional people at ALL levels in order to replace them with a bunch of kids who will work for a much lower wage. They sought inexperienced kids who would work ON THE CHEAP. Oh but wait a minute...how DARE you say that! These people went to broadcasting college! What a first class joke of an operation. The "news leader"? Far, far from it!
