Notice anything strange on Revolution 101

Was it just me or did anyone else notice strange changes on WGMR today? It seemed to me that they were playing some things I have not heard on there before and I noticed things sounded a bit different overall. It sounds like they redid the format clock maybe and I heard a few songs I never heard them play before. Someone told me they heard the place may have been sold or something. Does anyone know much about that? I have worked in Altoona for a long time and I know our company did not buy them. Any details?

Where in the world does this stuff get started? No sellout that we are aware of at the station, and I don't think Froggy is turning us into a parking lot or anything like that.

Music changes...no such nonsense. If you hear any change, its because we had a massive hard drive failure late last night resulting in a loss of much of the music stored on our PC's. Fortunately we had an old backup to rely off of which would explain any songs you never heard before. AJ had to rebuild the format clocks from memory so a few things may have ended up in different places. Poor guy also spent all night last night reloading the newer cuts into storage so they'd be in the library too. Much of the airstaff was wrestling with it today since everything was not 100% as it should be.

Massive Hard Drive failure doesn't even explain it we are not even 100% yet. No Changes being made and no one has bought the station. Every now and then there is a technical glitch that throws you out of synch for a few days this is one of them.

Kinda makes you wish for the ole days--CD or turntables & cart machines. If one broke, you just swapped it out.

Ahhh yes...the price of progress...but even the big boys do it this way now. I toured Beaver 103's studios once with Don Bedell and it was like a spaceship on autopilot! WEIRD to those of us who used to have to be strapped to the board!!!
I remember being afraid to walk out of the studio to go to the bathroom...Now you could live in the bathroom for the whole shift and it could march on without you...liners firing themselves...autosegues...its nutty!

REV's setup is pretty damn complex. Man that Thursday night thing from the club is sweet how it gets piped into the studio. I think it is very funny that many of the bigger guys rely on Marti's or stereo phone lines, etc. for remote broadcasts and we literally have the ability to take the station mobile anywhere we want to...the jock can broadcast live...even play the music from literally ANWHERE IN THE world and sound like he is IN THE STUDIO! Having seen both sides of the fence, I'd never use a Marti again!!!

Just curious, Steve, what is used... high-speed Internet line?

The main on air system at rev is mediatouch same as 3wz locally. The live broadcast from LOVE is by the net, there are two deicated custom dells one at the studio and one at love. The DJ at love can ping in and take over the station and switch to the LOVE computer from the club via a encripted secure system, wow holy star trek talk -sorry! I will get the name but it is a monthly service that we stream on, not too bad and very reliable. No lugging martis too. When the broadcast is over the jock at the club who can fire IDs liners and the works just pings back and starts mediatouch right on schedule. AJ will tell you it was smooth "most of the time" Anybody want to check it out come on over!

Isn't that program called "PC Anywhere" made by Norton? Pretty cool program if that's the one. Basically can pull up any computer you need to, just have to have the program installed on the Pc's your using. Hey Revbabe, your media touch in the Rev, does it still only use one channel on the board or did they finally hook it up right and have it running off three channels? That board was not fun to use live with only one pot.

Both mediatouch screens hooked up each has a channel, Broadcast tools switcher DDs 8 for OHP I think. No, not PC anywhere it is a dedicated site for upstreaming that you log into for CD quality streaming. Ill find it for you. Did you work here or help with the install?

Yes I can defineatly concur that it is NOT PC anywhere. It was designed exclusively for this type of purpose. I'd rather not say what it is...or soon everyone will be using it. If someone else wants to tell you...that's their own deal...but my lips is sealed!!!

Steve

I worked in the Rev studios a couple years back, did some board op for Bob and Tom and covered nights for AJ once or twice, other than that it wasn't a long stretch. That sounds like a pretty sweet setup, is the invite to see this operation open to me as well?

You're hardly at risk of being accused of industrial espionage :)

Those old days of trying to get a marti signal out of the back of Players were priceless. We had to dump out of it many many times. Glad to hear the technology is there now.

Spying for the competition...well you are right there...I WOULD NEVER...nor would they probably ever ask me after the opinions I have spoken here...but why give them more info then they need to know either?

Our setup is what makes us unique...others don't have it or they would not be asking what it is and how it works, so why let the cat out of the bag???

Let them play with their Marti while we set up and go :)

We do use the PC Anywhere to dump in and out of the Mediatouch, but this is not what is used for the broadcast, that is callled, and you thought I was going to tell you...?
