Notification on Threads not always working

This isn't a biggie but something I have been noticing for a while now.

When I post to a thread, then get a reply (someone quotes me) the "post indicator" that normally appears at the left of the thread index doesn't always appear. Sometimes it does and other times it doesn't. Or perhaps I don't understand how it is supposed to work?
 
Are you talking about the little "New Posts" icon?
If so, I'm not sure why it does not appear on some threads.
Please indicate a forum where this is happening and I'll check the setup of that particular forum.
